At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

This job opportunity is available at ANY location in the United States. Ideally, selected candidates will be near a JACOBS U.S. based office, but we intend to hire the "best" candidates.

We're looking for a Civil Engineer to join our Data Center group, and you'll have the chance to work on projects including state-of-the-art industrial, data centers and commercial facilities. You'll be accountable for schedule, technical quality, and due diligence evaluations associated with challenging engineering assignments while gaining familiarity with client expectations, scope, budget, and schedule. Your multi-discipline, highly interactive team will conceptualize initial civil design for land/site development, perform site evaluations, support site selection and acquisition activities, prepare grading plans, and perform earthwork and drainage analyses.

In addition to traditional civil engineering responsibilities, you'll play a critical role in conducting technical due diligence for prospective project sites, identifying development constraints, assessing infrastructure availability, evaluating project risks, and supporting clients through site selection and investment decisions. You'll collaborate closely with architectural, energy and power, water, environmental, permitting, utilities, transportation, geotechnical, and real estate professionals to provide comprehensive assessments that help clients make informed decisions prior to major capital investments.

You'll be surrounded by expert technical professionals to collaborate with and help you thrive in your career.

As a Civil Engineer in Data Centers/Advanced Manufacturing, some of your key contributions will include
  • Site development, site master planning, and site selection for large data center facilities
  • Leading technical due diligence efforts for greenfield and brownfield development opportunities
  • Performing site feasibility assessments related to grading, drainage, utilities, transportation access, permitting, environmental constraints, and constructability
  • Evaluating potential development risks, opportunities, and fatal flaws associated with prospective project sites
  • Supporting clients through site acquisition, investment, and development decision-making processes
  • Conducting infrastructure assessments including water, wastewater, stormwater, electrical including grid and behind the meter power solutions, telecommunications, and transportation systems
  • Researching and documenting local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements, zoning restrictions, development regulations, and permitting considerations and lead conversations with the relevant local authorities
  • Lead the development and submission of permitting packages
  • Preparing due diligence reports, technical memorandums, risk assessments, and executive-level recommendations
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary due diligence teams including civil, architectural, energy and power, water/wastewater, environmental, geotechnical, transportation, permitting, and utility stakeholders
  • Supporting site comparison studies and development of site selection criteria and scoring methodologies
  • Underground utility routing and site space planning
  • Hydrology analysis for designing storm drain systems
  • Analyzing and designing gravity wastewater systems
  • Performing final grading plans including cut and fill analysis and earthwork balancing
  • Providing erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater pollution prevention plans, and permit support
  • Stormwater analysis and modeling using software applications such as StormCAD and CivilStorm
  • Preparing and reviewing civil engineering construction documents, specifications, and technical reports
  • Serving as discipline lead on complex, multi-disciplinary projects and coordinating engineering activities across teams
Here's what you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • PE license
  • 8 or more years of engineering experience, including extensive site development and industrial project experience from design through construction
  • Strong working knowledge and experience analyzing and designing all aspects of medium to large-scale industrial developments
  • Demonstrated experience conducting site feasibility studies, development assessments, and technical due diligence evaluations
  • Experience supporting site selection, land acquisition, capital project planning, or facility expansion initiatives
  • Ability to identify and communicate development risks, permitting challenges, infrastructure constraints, and project opportunities
  • Ability to perform project discipline lead responsibilities on complex, multi-disciplinary projects and direct engineering design within the civil team
  • Demonstrated experience with all design modules of AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience preparing, assembling, and reviewing construction drawings and technical specifications

  • Experience leading technical due diligence efforts for site acquisition or major capital investments

  • Knowledge of economic development programs, utility incentives, and large-scale industrial permitting processes
Ideally, You'll Have
  • Bluebeam experience
