Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Task Leader to oversee site design efforts for transportation projects nationwide. You will manage technical aspects, ensure regulatory compliance, and mentor junior staff while delivering comprehensive design packages from initiation to final design.

The role requires a Civil/Environmental/Mechanical Engineering background with EIT/FE credentials and about 5 years of related experience, with travel up to 10% and a hybrid work arrangement in the Reno area.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • EIT certification or FE exam within 18 months of hire/promotion/transfer.
  • 5 years of related experience.
  • Travel is domestic and/or international; frequency contingent on duties.
  • Equivalent related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

  • Lead site design projects nationwide as Task Leader.
  • Manage technical aspects and drive the technical vision of projects.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and firm policies are followed.
  • Conduct site inspections, proposals, and client meetings.
  • Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance.
  • Develop design criteria, alignments, grading plans, utility and drainage plans, construction plans, construction specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Write technical reports and perform site grading and drainage work.
  • Coordinate utilities and perform hydrologic/ hydraulic analyses for stormwater.

Responsibilities
  • Working as a Task Leader supporting site design projects nationwide.
  • Managing technical aspects, ensuring accuracy, and driving the technical vision of projects.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations and that firm policies are followed
  • Conducting site inspections, proposal creation, and client meetings
  • Mentoring junior staff, offering technical guidance, and supervising their work
  • Developing project design criteria, alignments, grading plans, utility and drainage plans, construction plans, construction specifications, and cost estimates
  • Writing of technical reports
  • Site grading and drainage
  • Utility coordination
  • Utility design (water, sewer, etc.)
  • Paving and grading
  • Erosion control and stormwater management
  • Green Infrastructure and Geotechnical considerations
  • Completing Hydrologic and Hydraulic analysis of drainage systems and design of stormwater management
  • Delivering site design projects from initiation through final design
Skills & Abilities

Expert Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Expert Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline. Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer). 5 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

USD $78,645.00

Pay Range Max

USD $129,750.00

Additional Pay Range Information

CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate’s salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.

  • All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
