Job summary

Coffman Engineers is seeking a highly skilled, self-motivated Civil Engineer with 1–3 years of experience to join our Bay Area office. You will contribute to site development, grading, drainage, and utility infrastructure as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The role blends technical design and consulting with a focus on collaboration, growth, and a healthy work-life balance. Hybrid schedule is available, with in-office and field opportunities.

Qualifications

• Education: B.S. in Civil Engineering from an accredited university (Required).
• Licensing: Civil Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T.) required.
• Experience: 1-3 years in site development and civil design.
• Software: Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to civil design from permitting through project completion for diverse market sectors.
• Prepare civil engineering plans including site plans, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility plans, ADA accessibility, and other associated improvements using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Research jurisdictional codes and manuals to determine design requirements.
• Collaborate with structural, fire protection, mechanical, and electrical teams on complex projects.

The position will involve a mix of technical design and consulting. We work in tight-knit teams that support each other and are managed with a healthy work-life balance that is focused on development and caring for the whole person.

What You’ll Do:

• Approximate Base Salary: $75k-95k based on experience.
• Straight Pay for Overtime: Paid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate.
• Bonuses: Annual discretionary performance bonuses.
• Retirement: 401k with up to 5% matching.
• Flexibility: Hybrid work schedule and flexible PTO.
• Commuter Friendly: 3 blocks from BART; bike storage and central location.

This position is hybrid where the staff are in-person three days a week (minimum) and have the option to work remotely two days a week. The optional remote workdays of the week are currently Monday and Friday. These guidelines are reassessed periodically.
