Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Civil Engineer to support the Spent Fuel Handling Project near Idaho Falls. The role provides civil engineering expertise from design through construction and commissioning, including review of contractor documents and providing technical support across civil disciplines.

Qualified candidates have 5+ years in civil engineering, an ABET-accredited degree, and familiarity with relevant codes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET Accredited program.
  • Demonstrated experience from concept through detailed design.
  • Familiarity with ASCE, ACI, ASTM, ASME, and IBC codes.
  • US citizenship required (government customer requirements).

Responsibilities

  • Review and check design documents and deliverables from contractors/subcontractors.
  • Provide technical support for all civil engineering aspects of the project.
  • Track progress and status of projects and change orders using reporting mechanisms.
  • Perform on-site inspections to resolve technical issues and ensure compliance with plans and specs.

Job description

We are currently seeking a Civil Engineer to support the Spent Fuel Handling Project (SFHP) near Idaho Falls.

This role will provide civil engineering expertise in support of the SFHP project. This role will help deliver the SFHP design to construction completion and commissioning. The candidate will be responsible for providing technical support to all aspects of civil engineering including review and checking of design documents and deliverables from the contractors/subcontractors.

Typical experience and duties include the following:
  • Experience with civil engineering concepts and construction standards, methods, practices and techniques materials and equipment to determine compliance with federal, state and local codes and regulations.
  • Originate, assess, and provide advice on construction designs, engineering drawings, and soil and foundation mechanics.
  • Evaluate and advise on contracted work to ensure its quality and compliance with plans, designs, and specifications.
  • Determine the adequacy and validity of contractor data and compliance with safety requirements.
  • Track progress and status of projects and contractual change orders using various reporting mechanisms.
  • Make on-site inspections of construction sites to determine solutions for potential or actual problem areas, ensure compliance with project requirements and resolve technical issues
Qualifications
  • 5+ Years of experience in the Civil Engineering field
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET Accredited program
  • Certified Engineer in Training (EI) in Idaho working towards obtaining Professional Engineering licensure
  • Demonstrated experience working on a range of projects from concept through detailed design
  • Knowledge of design, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness
  • Familiarity with ASCE, ACI, ASTM, ASME, and IBC codes
  • Ability to understand and follow established Amentum quality procedures
  • Experience working within a quality system based on ISO 9000 or NQA-1
  • Competent using Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to work onsite at Idaho National Lab daily if needed
  • US citizenship required (to comply with government customer requirements and/or applicable government regulations)
Preferred qualifications
  • Able to lead groups of engineers and designers to complete technical portions of projects within established budgets and schedules.
  • Experience with Department of Energy (DOE) standards and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations
  • Master’s degree is a plus
  • Professional Engineering License a plus
Essential Functions

Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.

Compensation Details

$100,000 - $165,000

Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
