Job summary

Aligned Data Centers is seeking a Civil Engineer to lead internal and external engineering teams, contractors, and cross‑functional departments to ensure civil design integrity across data center developments. The role demands strong project management, coordination, and a proactive design leadership approach.

The ideal candidate brings a PE license (preferred), 5+ years in civil design within data centers or infra, and excellence in site development, grading, drainage, and utilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; PE license strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in civil design and project management.
  • Strong understanding of site development, grading, drainage, utilities, and permitting.
  • Advanced experience in Excel and AutoCAD.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • International Experience a plus.
  • Deep understanding of the Data Center design and construction process.
  • May travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

  • Design civil systems and lead standards, updates, and quality control across projects.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external consultants to ensure design deliverables meet standards.
  • Review reference designs; incorporate lessons learned and client needs.
  • Translate site constraints into clear civil design direction during DD.

Summary

The Civil Engineer will lead internal and external engineering teams, contractors, and cross‑functional departments to ensure the technical integrity and consistency of civil design and execution across Aligned’s data center developments. This role demands strong project management and coordination skills to ensure that site development, infrastructure, and utility systems are delivered efficiently, consistently, and in alignment with Aligned’s standards. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with a passion for driving design excellence, innovation, and operational performance.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Design
  • Lead and manage civil engineering standards, updates, and quality control across all projects.
  • Ensure consistency and compliance of Civil design deliverables with Aligned’s design and construction standards. Review and responsibility for quality control of design deliverables through full design phase.
  • Review and contribute to the reference design standards, incorporating lessons learned, code updates, and client‑driven needs.
  • Support early civil design definition during DD by translating land constraints, campus requirements, building needs, and construction considerations into clear civil design direction.
  • Support conceptual site planning, test fits, and evaluations for speculative real estate acquisitions; plug in and assist with Land Enablement team efforts.
  • Provide technical input for expansion, renovation, and upgrade projects at existing facilities.
  • Assist in the development of civil engineering scopes of work, review consultant proposals for technical completeness and alignment with project requirements, and manage external civil consultants through design to support timely, coordinated, and construction‑ready deliverables.
  • Oversee Civil design coordination across disciplines to ensure seamless integration with architectural, structural, and MEP systems.
  • Validate readiness of Civil systems for service and support commissioning efforts, as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve site performance issues related to grading, drainage, utilities, and other civil systems.
  • Evaluate and approve deviations from standard designs based on client requirements.
  • Lead technical assessments of potential acquisitions and existing assets.
  • Evaluate Land Enablement & Site Acquisition Due Diligence output, and positioning.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and sustainable practices in Civil engineering.
  • Lead or support the evaluation and implementation of innovative design and construction methodologies.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to align Civil engineering solutions with evolving technical needs.
  • Communicate complex Civil engineering concepts to diverse technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Lead technical training and mentorship for engineering and design staff.
  • Represent civil engineering in cross‑functional meetings and leadership discussions.
Strongly Desired Working Experience And Knowledge Of
  • Project Management Software (MS Projects, Procore, BIM 360, or similar).
  • Civil design software (Civil 3D, AutoCAD).
  • Knowledge and experience working with Bluebeam, Autocad, & Revit a plus.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing engineering scopes of work and consultant proposals.
  • Familiarity with fast‑paced commercial, industrial, mission critical, data center, big‑box retail, distribution, or repeatable campus/site development programs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; PE license strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in civil design and project management, ideally within the data center or infrastructure development space.
  • Strong understanding of site development, grading, drainage, utilities, and permitting processes.
  • Advanced experience in Excel and AutoCAD.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • International Experience a plus.
  • Deep understanding of the Data Center design and construction process.
  • Ability to multi‑task, with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality always.
