Job summary

New Horizons Telecom, Inc. in Palmer, Alaska, seeks a Civil Engineer to design, develop construction documents, and support civil/structural projects.

You will collaborate with a cross-functional team to meet engineering goals and ensure compliant designs in challenging environments. The role requires Alaska PE license or Structural Engineer, BS in Civil/Structural Engineering, and experience with permafrost foundations.

Qualifications

  • Alaska PE license in Civil Engineering or Professional Structural Engineer.
  • Geotechnical in frozen soils preferred.
  • Redline drawings with AutoCAD drafting procedures.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and MS Office suite.
  • 2+ years of design experience after PE in Civil/Structural engineering.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and establish effective working relationships with diverse groups including clients, regulators and contractors.
  • Review designs and drawings with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to drafters, designers, and construction personnel.
  • Make timely decisions on engineering ethics, costs, procedures, and standards.

Job Summary

The Civil Engineer will provide complete designs, develop construction documents and reports, and support other civil and structural projects. The position requires day‑to‑day team communication, project planning, organization, training, direction, and control to meet the company’s engineering goals and requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Must have excellent attention to detail with a desire for excellence and establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups, including company employees at various levels, clients, vendors, government regulators, and other outside companies and individuals.
  • Be familiar with all aspects of construction (including but not limited to; ironwork, structures, grading, water supply, sewage disposal, paving, storm drainage, site layout, building design, permitting, construction materials testing, etc.)
  • Review and collaborate on designs and drawings with a multi‑disciplinary team of engineers, subcontractors, project managers, and construction managers, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance to drafters, designers, and construction personnel.
  • Must be able to make timely decisions on Engineering ethics, costs, procedures, and standards that will stand and not affect future requirements.
Qualifications
  • This position requires a State of Alaska Professional Engineering License in Civil Engineering or Professional Structural Engineer License and BS Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Geotechnical investigation experience with excavations and construction in frozen soils is preferred.
  • Must be able to redline drawings and be familiar with AutoCAD drafting procedures.
  • Experience with spreadsheets, word processing, AutoCad, Bluebeam and standard office software (MS Excel, Word, Project, Teams, and Outlook)
  • Foundation design experience in permafrost, rock, and conventional soils using piles, rock anchors, and concrete pads.
  • Design experience using steel, aluminum, wood, and concrete materials.
  • Must be knowledgeable of standard construction practices and National Building Code standards.
  • Minimum of 2 years of design experience after PE in Civil/Structural engineering.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • This position is open only to candidates who currently reside in Alaska due to business and employment compliance requirements.
