Job summary

EVS, Inc. in Eden Prairie, MN is seeking a Civil Engineer to design and deliver site development projects within renewable energy and infrastructure sectors.

You will own design tasks, support project execution, and mentor junior engineers while expanding technical expertise. Responsibilities include grading, stormwater systems, plan set development, and collaboration across civil, electrical, and structural teams to ensure quality outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in civil engineering, site design, or stormwater management.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D with grading, stormwater design, and site layout.
  • Strong understanding of cut/fill balancing, hydrology, and stormwater management.
  • Experience with design standards, codes and permitting requirements.
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, PowerPoint for reports and documentation.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam for QA/QC and redlining.
  • Ability to work independently while balancing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and effective communication; mentoring is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Execute site design and drafting with minimal supervision, including grading and plan set development.
  • Perform grading tasks (HWL, mass grading) and stormwater solutions with optimization.
  • Design stormwater systems (culverts, basins, swales) meeting regulatory standards.
  • Optimize earthwork for utility-scale solar sites alongside project constraints.
  • Develop plan sets with clarity, accuracy, and client alignment.
  • Conduct QC and peer reviews of junior engineers' work.
  • Review redlines and ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Prepare engineering reports (SWPPP, stormwater, Basis of Design).
  • Analyze site constraints and propose practical design improvements.
  • Participate in client meetings and support technical discussions.
  • Respond to inquiries and help resolve project challenges.
  • Collaborate across civil, electrical, and structural design efforts.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support team development.
  • Contribute to internal training and track milestones and timelines.
  • Ensure project documentation is accurate and complete.

CIVIL ENGINEER Location: Eden Prairie, MN | Hybrid | Remote Schedule: Full-Time Salary: $75,000 - $110,000 (based on experience) EVS is seeking a Civil Engineer to support the design and delivery of site development projects within the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors. This role is ideal for an engineer who is ready to take on greater ownership of design tasks, contribute to project execution, and support junior team members while continuing to build technical expertise. You’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality civil designs, collaborating across disciplines, and supporting efficient, constructible project outcomes.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Independently execute site design and drafting with minimal supervision, including grading, layout, and plan set development.
  • Perform complex grading tasks such as high-water line (HWL) grading, mass grading, and stormwater management solutions with a focus on cut/fill optimization.
  • Design stormwater management systems including culverts, basins, and swales while ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Optimize grading strategies for utility-scale solar sites, balancing earthwork efficiency with project constraints.
  • Lead development of plan sets, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with client and regulatory expectations.
  • Perform quality control reviews and peer reviews of junior staff work to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards.
  • Review and implement redlines, ensuring compliance with company standards and best practices.
  • Prepare engineering reports including SWPPP, stormwater management reports, and Basis of Design (BOD) documentation.
  • Analyze site constraints and develop practical engineering solutions to improve constructability and efficiency.
  • Participate in client meetings and support technical discussions alongside project managers.
  • Respond to engineering inquiries and contribute to resolving project challenges.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment across civil, electrical, and structural design efforts.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, providing guidance on grading, drafting, and design problem-solving.
  • Contribute to internal training efforts and support development of team capabilities.
  • Track project milestones, deliverables, and timelines to support successful project execution.
  • Ensure project documentation is accurate, organized, and complete.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in civil engineering, site design, or stormwater management.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D with experience in grading, stormwater design, and site layout.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles including cut/fill balancing, hydrology, and stormwater management.
  • Experience working with design standards, state and local codes, and permitting requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam for QA/QC, markups, and redlining.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical design solutions.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to clearly present technical concepts.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
