Job summary

EnSafe is seeking a Civil Engineer for its Knoxville, TN office to support planning, design, permitting, and implementation across diverse infrastructure projects.

You will prepare plans, reports, calculations, and collaborate with regulatory agencies and clients to ensure quality and compliance while growing professionally in a culture that values safety and ownership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 4+ years of professional civil engineering experience.
• Experience preparing engineering plans, reports, and design calculations.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, OpenRoads, and MS Office.
• Familiarity with stormwater, drainage, and site development principles.

Responsibilities

• Prepare transportation and civil engineering designs, plans, specifications, calculations, and technical reports for infrastructure projects.
• Support transportation roadway design, alignments, intersections, and hydraulic calculations.
• Assist with site development, drainage, erosion control, and utilities design.
• Assist with project permitting and regulatory compliance activities at local, state, and federal levels.
• Conduct engineering analyses to support planning and design decisions.
• Coordinate with environmental scientists, geologists, planners, surveyors, and other professionals.
• Review drawings, documents, and submittals for quality and compliance.
• Participate in field investigations, data collection, and construction observations as needed.
• Support project managers with scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and client communications.
• Prepare technical memoranda, reports, permit applications, and engineering documentation.
• Collaborate with clients and regulatory agencies to advance project objectives and ensure compliance.
• Ensure work products meet company quality standards and applicable regulations.

As a Civil Engineer, you will support a variety of projects from planning and design through permitting and implementation, in an environment that fosters creativity, collaboration at all levels, a culture of support, and professional growth. Duties/Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Prepare transportation and civil engineering designs, plans, specifications, calculations, and technical reports for infrastructure projects.
• Support transportation roadway design, horizontal and vertical alignments, intersection improvements, hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, erosion control, traffic control and cross section modeling.
• Support site development, grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion control, and utility projects.
• Assist with project permitting and regulatory compliance activities at the local, state, and federal levels.
• Conduct engineering analyses and evaluations to support project planning and design decisions.
• Coordinate with environmental scientists, geologists, planners, surveyors, and other engineering professionals.
• Review project drawings, technical documents, and contractor submittals for quality and compliance.
• Participate in field investigations, site assessments, data collection, and construction observations as needed.
• Support project managers with scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and client communications.
• Prepare technical memoranda, reports, permit applications, and engineering documentation.
• Collaborate directly with clients and regulatory agencies to advance project objectives and maintain compliance.
• Ensure work products meet company quality standards and applicable engineering regulations.

Skills/Experience

Minimum Skills and Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 4+ years of professional civil engineering experience.
• Experience preparing engineering plans, specifications, technical reports, and design calculations.
• Working knowledge of stormwater management, drainage design, grading, utility design, and site development principles.
• Familiarity with applicable engineering standards, regulations, and permitting requirements.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively in a collaborative consulting environment.

Preferred Skills

• Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license with ability to obtain licensure in the near term.
• Experience in civil engineering consulting, or related professional services.
• Familiarity with municipal, industrial, transportation, or private development infrastructure projects.
• Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software.
• Project management experience, including client interaction and budget management.
