David Nice Builders in the Norfolk, VA area is seeking an experienced Construction Project Lead to oversee site preparation, earthwork, utilities installation, and foundation work. Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in civil construction, earthwork, utilities, and foundation prep.
  • Proven ability to manage field teams and subcontractors on commercial projects.
  • Strong ability to read civil/site plans, blueprints, and specifications.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience with Procore or Trimble preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Preferred: experience on federal/public sector projects.
  • Knowledge of local codes and permitting in the Hampton Roads/Virginia region.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee site prep activities including grading, excavation, soil stabilization, compaction, and foundation work.
  • Manage installation of underground utilities and coordinate inspections.
  • Read and interpret civil/site plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Lead, direct, and supervise field crews and subcontractors to ensure safe, high-quality execution.
  • Maintain the project schedule, update progress, and meet milestone dates.
  • Enforce OSHA safety standards and conduct daily safety meetings with full PPE compliance.
  • Manage daily job documentation (photos, as-builts, timesheets, progress reports).
  • Track job costs, assist with change orders, and deliver projects within budget.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing agencies, and permitting requirements.
  • Chair weekly progress meetings with project managers, clients, engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Maintain professional appearance of vehicles and job sites.
  • Support snow removal operations during winter months as needed.

  • Read and interpret civil/site plans, specifications, and contract documents; identify potential issues early
  • Lead, direct, and supervise field crews and subcontractors to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution
  • Maintain the project schedule, update progress, and help meet all milestone dates
  • Enforce strict safety standards and OSHA regulations; conduct daily safety meetings and ensure full PPE compliance
  • Manage daily job documentation, photos, as-builts, timesheets, and progress reports (Procore/Trimble)

What You Bring (Qualifications)
