Job Title: Civil Clerk

Type: Full-Time
Salary: $20.77 - $26.29 per hour, depending on experience

General Position Summary

Responsible for directing all Sheriff's Office non-emergency incoming phone calls and contact from citizens at the reception counter and performs clerical duties in the Civil Division of the Sheriff’s Office.

Education, Certification, & Experience

  • High school or GED certificate
  • Two years’ experience in general office work; typing speed of 50 WPM, extensive experience answering multi-line phones desirable.
  • Criminal Justice experience and knowledge of State laws governing civil processes and procedures desirable.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to be certified as LEDS operator.
  • Ability to obtain Notary
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Language Skills - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
    • Mathematical Skills - Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
    • Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
    • Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software and Word Processing software.
Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Salary and Benefits

This is an hourly, non-exempt position, with a wage range of $20.77 - $ 26.29 per hour. The pay range listed here reflects the FULL pay range for this position for the current fiscalyear. Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.

Work Schedule

The normal work schedule is 40 hours per week; exact schedules are assigned by management. It is the attendance standards of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work. Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
