Job summary

City Vet Cedar Hill is seeking a Veterinary Technician to join our urgent care team. The VT assists veterinarians, maintains patient care, and supports efficient daily practice in a fast-paced clinic.

A minimum of 1 year in veterinary setting is preferred, with a strong emphasis on accurate medication administration, client communication, and teamwork. Candidates should be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work collaboratively with front-office staff.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 18 years of age at time of hire.
  • At least 1 year of veterinary industry experience.
  • Ability to restrain animals safely.
  • Knowledgeable on veterinary terminology and medications.
  • Lift 50 lbs to waist height.
  • Frequent standing, bending, walking, lifting, carrying, and reaching.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated and team-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Veterinarians by prepping patients for surgery and assisting with anesthesia and post-op care.
  • Obtain samples (stool, blood, etc.) for testing and collaborate with the team.
  • Test samples and help interpret results to support diagnosis.
  • Administer prescribed medications, vaccines, and anesthesia per DVM instructions.
  • Communicate with clients about care plans and follow-up steps.
  • Support Client Service Specialist team as needed.

CityVet islooking for Veterinary Technicians to join our team! A Veterinary Technician Assistant will be considered (with a minimum of 1-year experience).

Compensation is based on experience and education.

Responsibilities

The Veterinary Technician (VT) is responsible for maintaining excellent patient care and operational productivity by helping the Veterinarian leverage their time and efforts to meet the needs of their clients and patients. The Veterinary Technician works to relieve the Veterinarian from technical work and administrative detail to achieve greater levels of efficiency in daily practice. Veterinary Technicians help facilitate and streamline communication from the operating room to the front office staff and most importantly, the client.

A day in the life:

  • Assist Veterinarians - prep patients for surgery (administer anesthesia/take x-rays/gather lab specimen), monitor patients post-op & restrain animals during exams
  • Obtain Samples - gather stool, blood, and other samples for testing
  • Testing - test the samples gathered and help to interpret the results
  • Administer Medications - give patients accurate dosage of prescribed medications, anesthesia, vaccines, or other medications indicated by the DVM
  • Client Communication - obtain medical information from the clients and provide the client proper instruction on how to care for the animal under the veterinarian's plan of care
  • Assist the Client Service Specialist team when needed
  • High school diploma or GED
