Job summary

Nome Alaska is seeking a skilled municipal vehicle and equipment mechanic to maintain city-owned light vehicles and heavy equipment. The role involves creating maintenance schedules, inventory planning, and assisting the Road Crew Foreman with repairs and emergencies.

Responsibilities include servicing oil, filters, tires, lights, and belts; estimating service times; and keeping a clean, safe shop. A CDL within the first year and strong mechanical skills are required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Must be able to obtain a CDL within the first year of employment.
• Service city owned vehicles and equipment to include but not limited to oil, air, and fuel filters, tires, wipers, glass replacement, lights, and belts
• Estimate the time needed to do servicing and schedule servicing accordingly
• Make recommendations to Public Works Supervisor for needed repairs for city vehicles and equipment.
• Assist road crew with emergency repairs of heavy equipment including loaders, graders, dozers, excavators, snow blowers and trucks
• Create a summertime schedule to repair winter equipment for the following years snow removal
• Maintain a clean shop environment
• Performs other related work as needed.
