Job summary

West Star Aviation in Chattanooga, TN is seeking an Aircraft Maintenance Technician to service a range of civilian aircraft, performing troubleshooting, inspections and repairs with precision.

You will be essential to many functions, from general mechanical tasks to engine removals, panel work, and systems troubleshooting, while adhering to FAA guidelines and maintaining a customer‑oriented attitude.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Airframe or Powerplant license required for AMT I/II/III/IV levels.
• 0-2 years of aviation maintenance for AMT I; 2-4 years for AMT II; 4-6+ years for AMT III; 6+ years for AMT IV.
• Ability to follow FAA guidelines and work under supervision as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform general mechanical tasks on aircraft and systems.
• Remove and install panels and components; troubleshoot and fix issues.
• De-fuel aircraft; assist with engine removals and installations.
• Move aircraft, conduct inspections, and maintain shop equipment and tooling.
• Communicate clearly in English and follow safety rules.

Responsibilities

What you can expect as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician at West Star:

Whether you are replacing or repairing parts, troubleshooting electrical/mechanical/hydraulic and pneumatic systems, or performing inspections on some of the most sophisticated civilian aircraft in the world, no day is the same. You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including:

• Performing general mechanical tasks on aircraft and related systems.
• Removal and installation of panels and components.
• Troubleshooting and problem-solving aircraft system/component issues.
• De‑fueling aircraft.
• Engine removal/installations.
• Operating ground support equipment.
• Inspection and evaluation of the aircraft and components.
• Aircraft movement and assistance in performance runs/taxiing.
• Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment, and tooling.
• Basic computer skills to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance data bases.
• Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English.
• Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Requirements/Qualifications

Your Education:

A High school diploma or equivalent. A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.

Your Experience:

AMT I:
Airframe or Powerplant license is required. Airframe license is preferred.
0-2 years of experience in aviation maintenance, avionics, or similar.
These technicians have limited to moderate knowledge of general maintenance aspects.
Technicians require close supervision of general maintenance tasks.

AMT II:
Airframe or Powerplant license is required. Airframe license is preferred.
2-4 years of experience working in aviation maintenance.
Experience working on corporate aircraft is preferred but not essential.
These technicians have considerable knowledge of the job and general maintenance aspects.
Technicians require general supervision on routine maintenance and more detailed instruction for new or special assignments.

AMT III:
Airframe license is required; in addition, Powerplant license is highly preferred.
4-6+ years’ experience in aviation maintenance.
Experience working on corporate aircraft is highly preferred but not essential.
These technicians have full knowledge of general, detailed, and special assignments in aircraft maintenance.

AMT IV (Master):
Airframe and Powerplant license is required.
6+ years’ experience in aviation maintenance.
Must have extensive experience on corporate aircraft platforms.
Subject matter expert in all areas of the job.

Physical Requirements

• Lifts 50 lbs.
• Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.
• Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
• Climb ladders and stairs, work in small, restricted areas.
• Standing for long periods of time.

Mental Requirements

• Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines.
• Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation.
• Work with others in a professional manner.

Supervision

Work under supervision of assigned Team Leader and Director of Maintenance. May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations from very cold to very hot.

Work outside during aircraft runs will occur.

Varied positions in and around the aircraft.
