Commonpoint Queens (Samuel Field YM and YWHA) is seeking a CIT Counselor to serve as a primary caregiver at Sababa Beachaway, Virginia Beach. Counselors will lead a variety of activities including arts and crafts and swimming, ensuring the well-being and safety of campers while fostering their personal growth.

The ideal candidate has prior experience in youth supervision and excellent interpersonal skills. The role requires resilience as it involves outdoor work and 24/7 availability during the camp season.

Qualifications

• Prior experience supervising or developing youth, preferably in an overnight camp setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently.
• Ability to work outdoors and 24/7 during the camp season.

Position Summary

CIT counselors serve as primary caregivers for each camper, leading activities, providing emotional support, and fostering personal growth and daily living skills in a college dorm–style setting.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise camp activities including kickball, yoga, arts and crafts, surfing, sailing, scuba, and swimming
• Ensure the daily well‑being of campers and their safe participation in all activities
• Monitor medical needs and coordinate with onsite infirmary staff
• Promote life skills, self‑care, and interpersonal development
• Engage campers with positivity, such as cheering, talent shows, and other group activities
• Foster character development consistent with the Sababa philosophy
• Perform any other duties as instructed by the direct supervisor

Skills / Knowledge Required

• Prior experience supervising or developing youth, preferably in an overnight camp setting
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently
• Ability to work outdoors and 24/7 during the camp season
• Experience with at least one of the following: surfing, sailing, scuba diving, photography, oceanography, arts and crafts
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with coworkers and campers
