Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking a Network Engineer to support ongoing network lifecycle refresh initiatives in Knoxville, TN. You will configure Cisco routers and switches, prepare gear for deployment at refresh sites, and coordinate with field technicians to ensure proper IP ranges and subnetting.

Role involves collaboration with network leadership and vendors on planning, documentation, and improvements, with CCNA-level certification and strong firewall/VPN/IDS/IPS experience required.

Qualifications

• Proven track record in installing and supporting a complex network with multiple technology types, technology suppliers, and network elements.
• Strong competency in network operations, systems, and reporting including having implemented routing and switching topologies, firewall architectures, and collateral security systems.
• Experience with the direct administration of Cisco routers and switches is required.
• Experience with the administration of Checkpoint NG/NGx firewalls is a plus.
• Demonstrated skills to communicate difficult technical concepts clearly to a variety of individuals of varying technical expertise and understanding.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to deal effectively with the business unit executives, management and staff, as well as IT management and staff.
• CCNA level certification required

Responsibilities

• Implement best practice processes to troubleshoot and resolve outages.
• Works with network providers to resolve installation and outage issues.
• Reports significant system outages and causes to IT management and provide sufficient information to perform root cause analysis.
• Provides direct network operations support, including router and switch configuration, firewall administration, VPN support, and IDS/IPS and URL filtering support.
• Monitors software vendors for new releases and patches and applies same as appropriate to established policies.
• Regularly review all network systems to ensure controls are present and configurations are up to the current standard.
• Troubleshoot and resolve network outages.
• Configure network equipment for deployment in company's network.
• Participate as a team/project resource to complete current network improvement projects.
• Monitor new developments in network and firewall technology and make recommendations as appropriate.
• Participate in development and implementation of components to ensure compliance with company network standards and architecture.
• Recommend IT network operations policy changes as appropriate.
• Updates Network architecture, design and standards, plans and DR documentation.
