Job summary

Arkansas Urology in Little Rock is seeking an Operating Room Circulator RN to deliver and document patient care during the intra-operative period. The role requires perioperative nursing expertise and adherence to asepsis principles in a fast-paced surgical setting.

The successful candidate will have RN licensure in Arkansas, BLS and ACLS current, and CNOR experience preferred. The position involves variable hours and collaboration with the surgical team.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
• Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Arkansas is required.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification.
• CNOR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs the perioperative nursing role, including preoperative assessment, care planning, intraoperative management and postoperative evaluation.
• Maintains asepsis principles in all duties and documents care accordingly.
• Assists in setting up and performing cases by assembling equipment and supplies using sterile technique.
• Positions patients correctly and prepares operative sites per surgeon's plan and team instructions.
• Assists anesthesia with intubation/extubation, fluid balance, blood products and patient thermo-regulation.
• Monitors vital signs during procedures and documents nursing care on records.
• Performs surgical counts and handles specimens per procedure guidelines.
• Executes OR clean-up and proper disposal of supplies; ensures intra-operative safety.

HOURS: 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM (hours may vary)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Operating Room Circulator RN is responsible for the delivery and documentation of patient care during the intra-operative period.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs the perioperative nursing role to include preoperative assessment of the patient, nursing care plan formulation, operative care plan implementation, and postoperative evaluation of the patient’s response/outcome. Also evaluates the effectiveness and appropriateness of nursing care provided with documentation of such.
• Demonstrates understanding and utilization of principles of asepsis in all duties.
• Assists in the setting up and performance of cases by assembly of equipment and supplies according to sterile technique.
• Assists in the setting up and performance of cases by opening of sterile pack, instruments, and supplies according to sterile technique.
• Prepares each patient for surgery by positioning the patient in the appropriate position, preparing the patient’s operative site, confirming the procedure and site according to the surgeon’s history and physical and operating room team, and helping move the patient to and from the operating table.
• Assists anesthesia personnel with the intubation/extubation of patients, the monitoring of fluid volume balance, the administration of blood/blood products, and the thermo-regulation of the patient.
• Monitors the patient’s level of consciousness, electrocardiogram, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation during local anesthetic procedures.
• Performs surgical counts (sponges, sharps, and instruments) and documents nursing care on legal records.
• Handles specimens according to proper procedure.
• Assists in the clean-up of the operating room following surgery, including proper disposal of used supplies and sharps.
• Assumes responsibility for intra-operative patient safety related to positioning activities, the use of equipment, and the use of chemicals and solutions.
• Is responsible for complete and thorough performance of assigned tasks, addressing specific needs of patients as necessary.
• Collaborates with other professional team members.
• Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein, or as assigned

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Arkansas required. Current BLS, ACLS, certification required. CNOR certification preferred. Working knowledge and experience in a hospital or ambulatory surgical center operating room. Ability to adhere to work schedule and manage time appropriately. Ability to utilize resources in a timely, organized, and cost-effective manner.
