Job summary

State of Missouri's Department of Social Services – Children’s Division seeks an experienced professional to oversee protective services programs, including child abuse/neglect, foster care, adoption and permanency planning, ensuring compliance and positive outcomes for families.

The role requires leadership, investigative and evaluative capabilities, and the ability to travel statewide to collaborate with local offices and communities; a bachelor’s degree with relevant experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with nine+ years of professional experience in protective services.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field with five+ years of professional experience in protective services.

Responsibilities

  • Directs or assists in the planning, development and administration of social service programs such as child abuse/neglect, foster care, adoption, permanency planning and family-centered services.
  • Reviews and revises programs to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, policies, plans, and procedures.
  • Directs or assists administrative staff in general management, policy development, program planning, and coordinates responsibilities.
  • Conducts investigations, special studies, and prepares or reviews reports to evaluate policies, procedures and practices.
  • Assists in development and implementation of departmental planning; performs other duties as assigned.

Job Location: Circuit 38 (Christian County)

Individual(s) selected for this position may receive a higher rate based on a pay differential (e.g., shift, or time-of-service pay).

The Department of Social Services partners with families and communities to protect children, rehabilitate youth and move families to self-sufficiency so that Missourians can lead safe, healthy and productive lives.

The Department of Social Services – Children’s Division cares for at-risk children and families by providing family preservation and reunification services, investigating allegations of abuse and neglect, and conducting foster care and adoption case management.

Responsibilities
  • Directs or assists in the overall planning, development and administration of social service programs such as: child abuse/neglect, foster care, adoption, permanency planning; family-centered services; prevention of juvenile delinquency; care, treatment and education of youth within the department’s custody specifics, etc.
  • Reviews and/or revises programs in are of responsibility to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, policies, plans, and procedures.
  • Directs or assists administrative staff in general management, policy development, program planning, and/or coordinates assigned responsibilities.
  • Conducts investigations, special studies, and prepares or reviews reports and related information to evaluate existing organizations, policies, procedures, and practices as related to the assigned program.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of departmental planning.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent and Nine or more years of professional experience with a public or private agency in the delivery of protective services, including casework/case management in: investigation of abuse or neglect; coordination of foster care, adoptions, and family centered services; treatment/rehabilitation; and/or providing in-home family crisis intervention services, and possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably a degree in Social Work or comparable human services field, and Five or more years of professional experience with a public or private agency in the delivery of protective services, including casework/case management in: investigation of abuse or neglect; coordination of foster care, adoptions, and family centered services; treatment/rehabilitation; and/or providing in-home family crisis intervention services, and possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.
