Job summary

Lockheed Martin is seeking a Digital Design Manager to lead the design, development, verification, and production of high-performance digital circuitry for avionics. The role combines technical leadership with people management and direct interaction with program leadership, customers, and government stakeholders.

You will work on on-site programs near a Lockheed Martin Space facility in Colorado, managing a team of engineers, coordinating recruitments, and ensuring timely delivery within cost

Qualifications

  • Bachelor in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with relevant experience in avionics hardware design and leadership.
  • Electronics hardware design, development, test experience at circuit card and unit level.
  • Project leadership in electronics hardware design, development, test, and production.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance and US citizenship are required.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the research, design, development, and testing of digital signal‑processing hardware and FPGA‑based systems.
  • Oversee failure investigations, root‑cause analysis, and material disposition at multiple levels.
  • Lead design reviews, audits, and configuration‑control meetings.
  • Provide status updates and escalations to program leadership and customers.
  • Manage a team of digital‑circuit engineers and support staff; recruit and develop talent.
  • Balance cost, schedule, and technical risk to meet milestones and budget.

The Raptor Avionics common products are transitioning to adoption on many programs while still supporting future capability development and are seeking a motivated Digital Design Manager to join the Engineering & Technology team.

What does this role look like?

You will lead the design, development, verification, and production of high-performance digital circuitry and units for advanced avionics, supporting commercial civil space and military programs. The role blends technical leadership with personnel management, requiring strong communication with internal leadership, customers, and government stakeholders.

Location

This position does not support teleworking; you will be located near our Lockheed Martin Space facility and be expected to work a flexible 9x80 schedule in the office full-time.

Key Activities You Will Accomplish In This Role
  • Technical Leadership
    • Direct the research, design, development, and testing of digital signal‑processing hardware, FPGA‑based systems, high‑speed serializers/deserializers, and associated firmware.
    • Oversee failure investigations, root‑cause analysis, and material disposition at component, board, and system levels.
    • Lead technical reviews, design audits, and configuration‑control meetings.
  • Program & Stakeholder Communication
    • Provide clear status updates and issue escalations to program, technical, and functional leadership.
    • Interface with external customers to convey technical progress, risk, and performance data.
  • People Management
    • Manage a team of digital‑circuit engineers, technicians, and support staff.
    • Coordinate recruitment, onboarding, training, and career development for team members.
    • Conduct performance appraisals, assign work packages, set salary levels, and administer recognition or disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Schedule, Cost & Risk Management
    • Balance cost, schedule, and technical risk when making design trade‑offs.
    • Ensure deliverables meet program milestones and budget constraints.
To Be Effective In This Role, You Will Need
  • Experience with timely delivery of robust, high‑performance digital circuit subsystems that meet or exceed all performance, reliability, and schedule goals.
  • Experience with leading a high‑performing, engaged engineering team with clear career paths and low turnover.
  • Experience with development and production program execution. Risk and Opportunity Management, and ability to manage cost, schedule, and technical aspects with previous CAM experience.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with program leadership, government customers, and subcontractors.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and mitigate technical risks, leading to reduced rework and cost overruns.
  • Must have an active Top Secret/SCI clearance, thus you are a US Citizen.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college, or equivalent experience/combined education, with professional experience and specialized training commensurate with assignment.
  • Electronics hardware design, development and test experience of avionics electronics, at the circuit card and unit level.
  • Project leadership in electronics hardware design, development, test, and production.
  • Must have an active TS/SCI Clearence. US Citizenship is required.
Desired Skills
  • Demonstrated experience with Avionics Architecture (physical / functional).
  • Understanding of analog and digital circuit design and analysis.
  • Ability to interpret and create electrical schematics.
  • Experience with Test and Measurement Equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Aerospace experience supporting development of Flight Hardware.
  • Certified Product Engineer or Responsible
  • Systems Integration engineering experience.
  • Satellite and Missile System design experience.
  • Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice.
Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $166900.00 - $309900.00
