Job summary

Obsidian is seeking a seasoned professional to join its AI lab's GenAI team, focusing on establishing lighting standards for advanced AI models. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in film, VFX, or gaming, specifically as a Lighting Technical Director or Cinematographer.

This part-time role involves evaluating scene lighting, curating benchmarks, and shaping the criteria used for AI model assessments. Occasional in-person sessions at our offices in California or New York are required.

Qualifications

• 7 to 10 years of professional experience in the film, visual effects (VFX), or video game industry.
• A proven track record on 2 or more professional films or games.
• Meticulous eye for scene lighting and solid grasp of light physics and color science.
• Ability to translate complex visual details into clear, precise descriptive language.

Responsibilities

• Establish standards for evaluating scene lighting and illumination.
• Curate benchmarks for lighting examples to work from.
• Identify key losses that matter in the evaluation process.
• Shape the evaluation pool for the human reviewers.
