Job summary

City Union Mission is seeking a Childcare Specialist to lead the Family Ministries Nursery for children six months through kindergarten whose parents or guardians are staying at the Family Shelter. The role supports the mission by providing safe, structured care with dignity, stability, and Christ-centered love.

The position involves supervising staff and volunteers, planning daily routines, and maintaining a nurturing environment aligned with the organization’s faith-based ministry.

Qualifications

• To be a genuine believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, as evidenced by your personal testimony and your ability to clearly communicate the Gospel whenever opportunities arises.
• To possess sound Biblical character and refrain from engaging in an immoral lifestyle that could undermine or disrupt your testimony as a follower of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
• To be a member in good standing of a recognized Protestant, evangelical church.
• Agree and abide within the City Union Mission faith statement.
• To be genuinely committed to serving the poor and homeless, as expressed in the mission statement of City Union Mission.
• To be sober-minded, free from the influence of alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, or any substance that could cloud judgment or distract from a Christian-principled ministry.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, clean, and developmentally appropriate environment with consistent supervision and clear routines.
• Plan and manage nursery schedules, including structured activities, rest times, and transitions throughout the day.
• Order, organize, and maintain nursery supplies, materials, and equipment.
• Direct, supervise, and support staff, volunteers, and program participants assigned to the nursery.
• Fill in for other Center roles as needed.
