About this position

About Eurasia Group and GZERO Media

Eurasia Group is the world's leading global research and advisory firm. We help clients understand, anticipate, and respond to instability and opportunities everywhere they do business.

Together with GZERO Media—the go-to source of first insight into geopolitics—and our full-fledged events team, the Eurasia Group umbrella provides a complete political risk solution.

Headquartered in New York, we have offices in Washington, London, São Paulo, Brasilia, Tokyo, Singapore, and San Francisco, as well as on-the-ground experts in more than a hundred countries in every region of the world.

We are committed to analysis that is free of political bias and the influence of private interests.

Eurasia Group, the political risk research and advisory firm, is seeking an experienced and motivated senior-director-level hire to guide our coverage of China.

This role will lead the firm’s China analysis and client-focused work, and build and manage a team of analysts. The director will be responsible for ensuring that Eurasia Group delivers best-in-class research on China’s politics, political economy, and foreign policy – including key relationships such as US-China and China-Europe. The mandate demands a candidate with a broad-spectrum ability to drive analysis across a range of issue areas, from elite Chinese politics, to macroeconomic policy, to geopolitics, to corporate regulatory risk. We will consider candidates with relative strengths in each of these arenas.

Qualifications
  • A record of facilitating and leading unique analysis on China’s political economy, with a fully established personal brand in the field, and a publishing record, relevant government experience, or academic qualifications (MA or PhD in political science or related field) to validate their competency.
  • Evidence of innovative development of source-driven analytic products, including the ability to: think creatively, add new insights to current policy debates and discussions, and utilize data and quantitative metrics to support or supplement views.
  • An understanding of the business and financial market context for China-focused policy research.
  • Deep experience engaging in current debates in academic, government, and private sector circles about China and US-China policy, and the ability to demonstrate or build a network of sources in those debates.
  • Meaningful corporate leadership and mentorship skills and experience, both on setting and meeting business objectives, and on managing and cultivating junior staff either in the government or private sector.
  • An ability to operate with a commercial mindset, including skills in client service and relationship building, presentation delivery, and business development.
  • The candidate must be willing to and capable of engaging with public audiences, both by representing Eurasia Group’s views in mainstream media, and by collaborating between our analytic and advisory work and our growing GZERO Media and events businesses. The successful candidate will have experience and interest engaging across all these platforms, and the ability to drive new thinking and content delivery across each of them.
  • The candidate must be a good fit for Eurasia Group’s culture and values. A successful candidate will bring passion about our mission to deliver insights about the world to our clients and public audiences, while not themselves too seriously. We seek candidates who, like us, set the bar for our work at excellence and pursue that level relentlessly across everything we do.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $230,000 to $250,000.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, and education. Decisions will be determined on a case‑by‑case basis.

At Eurasia Group, our mission is to provide the tools and understanding needed in a world where politics drives disruption. We put politics first for our clients, and we aspire to be the leading place people come to find out about the world. This requires us to maintain a company culture that puts people first. We are committed to fostering an environment that is empowering and globally minded. We firmly believe that bringing people with a variety of ideas and perspectives to the table makes our analysis stronger for our clients and creates a better workplace. Our leadership team is dedicated to embedding this approach into everything we do and how we lead because we care deeply about our work and our people.
