Job summary

The New York Public Library (NYPL) seeks a Children’s Librarian to empower young readers from infancy to pre-teen. You will deliver reference services, develop engaging literacy programs, and help shape an inviting children’s space at Soundview Library.

Ideal candidates hold an ALA-accredited master’s in library science and NYS Librarian Certificate, with a track record in dynamic youth programming and community outreach.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library science or information studies preferred.
• New York State Public Librarian Certificate required or eligible.
• Experience with children’s programs and literacy initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Provide reference services using print, media and digital resources.
• Develop programs to promote literacy and a love of reading for children and caregivers.
• Collaborate to shape the children’s collection for diversity and relevance.
• Engage children with collections and guided explorations of interests.
• Promote library services and build partnerships with schools and community groups.
• Support digital literacy and technology instruction for kids.
• Create and manage content for social media and online platforms.
• Maintain a welcoming children's space and supervise staff when needed.
• Assist with circulation, fines, and opening/closing procedures.
