Job summary

Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Torrance, CA is seeking a Children's Ministry Coordinator to lead and grow our children's ministry from nursery through fifth grade. You will coordinate Sunday programming, recruit and train volunteers, and partner with pastoral staff to teach God's Word in a Christ-centered context.

The role emphasizes building relationships with families, safeguarding children, and developing lay leadership to run a sustainable ministry beyond one person.

Qualifications

• Experience in children's ministry or Christian education is preferred.
• Ability to recruit and develop leaders, communicate with families and staff, and maintain child-safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate Sunday children's ministry, including nursery, classroom readiness, volunteer scheduling and curriculum preparation.
• Recruit, train, encourage and develop volunteer leaders, building a sustainable ministry.
• Work alongside pastoral leadership to ensure biblically faithful, Christ-centered teaching.
• Maintain child-safety procedures, including volunteer screening, training and secure check-in and release.

  At Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, we believe children's ministry belongs to the whole church. We are looking for a Children's Ministry Coordinator who loves Jesus, loves children and families, and has a passion for equipping others to serve.

  Our vision is to build a Christ-centered ministry from nursery through fifth grade where children are faithfully taught God's Word, families are supported and volunteers are equipped to lead.

  This position is about more than running a Sunday program. We are looking for someone who can build a ministry through people.

  Your responsibilities

  Qualifications

  We are looking for a spiritually mature Christian who affirms and supports LCGS's biblical and theological commitments and demonstrates strong organizational and relational leadership.

  Previous experience in children's ministry, Christian education, volunteer leadership or a related field is strongly preferred. Formal theological education is beneficial but not required.

  Candidates should be able to recruit and develop leaders, communicate effectively with families and staff, exercise sound judgment and maintain appropriate child-safety standards.

  Schedule

  This is a part-time position averaging 25 hours per week. Regular responsibilities include Sunday mornings, weekly staff meetings, volunteer communication, lesson and ministry preparation, and other administrative and leadership responsibilities.

  Vacation Bible School and major events may require adjusted schedules or additional paid hours. Some weeks may require up to approximately 35 hours, depending on ministry needs.

  Compensation and benefits

  $26–$30 per hour

  Compensation depends on qualifications and relevant experience.
