Job summary

The Town of Needham's Needham Free Public Library is seeking a Children’s Librarian to provide readers advisory, reference services, and technology instruction, while developing children’s programming and outreach.

Reporting to the Children’s Supervisor, the successful candidate will help manage the Children’s Room, coordinate school partnerships, and contribute to the library's long-range plan.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science.
• 1–3 years’ experience in professional library children’s service.
• Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Familiarity with computers and the ability to adapt to new technologies.
• Capability of standing for long periods and lifting up to 45 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Advise and assist patrons in selecting, locating, and utilizing library resources.
• Establish, plan, and execute children’s programming that supports the library’s Long-Range Plan.
• Evaluate, weed, and develop the Children’s Room Materials Collections.
• Assist with outreach programs and library tours to local schools and organizations.
• Coordinate volunteer activities with the Children’s Supervisor.
• Update and maintain the Children’s Department web page.
