Job summary

Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, PA seeks an assistant to support the Childcare Teacher by implementing developmentally appropriate daily activities and maintaining a safe, engaging classroom.

Responsibilities include helping with arrival/departure, following safety plans, assisting with meals, and documenting attendance and observations. Requires education in early childhood and experience with young children; CPR/First Aid preferred.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: Two years with young children (birth to 8) or one year with 15 ECE credits.
  • Abilities: Effective communication, interpersonal skills, and PA childcare regulations knowledge.
  • Certifications: CPR and First Aid current or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Childcare Teacher with developmentally appropriate daily activities reflecting the Center's philosophy and children's goals.
  • Assist with safe arrival and departure of children.
  • Follow Center plan for medical emergencies and evacuations.
  • Assist with assessments and parent conferences as needed.
  • Help staff serve meals and snacks to children.
  • Maintain classroom materials and equipment in a safe, orderly manner.
  • Assume classroom operation in the absence of the Childcare Teacher.
  • Maintain accurate written records on attendance, screenings, and meals.
  • Attend staff meetings and center planning sessions.

Overview

This person will implement predetermined daily program activities under the guidance and direction of the Childcare Teacher.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalency. Required
  • Fifteen (15) credit hours in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education or Special Education. Preferred
  • Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education. Preferred
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Two (2) years work experience with young children (birth to 8 years) unless candidate possesses an Associate degree; OR, one (1) year experience and 15 credit hours in ECE or related discipline. Required

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Effective oral and written communication skills. Required
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with children and parents. Required
  • Sensitivity to the expectations of children and parents. Required
  • Knowledge of Pennsylvania regulations related to Child Care Centers. Required
  • Developed organizational skills. Required
  • Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain. Required
Responsibilities
  • Program Duties:
    • Assist the Childcare Teacher with implementation of developmentally appropriate daily program activities that reflect the Center/program's philosophy and children's goals.
    • Comply with all requirements for the protection and safety of Center children as directed by the Group Leader.
    • Assist the Childcare Teacher with the safe arrival and departure of children.
    • Follow the Center's plan to deal with medical emergencies and site evacuations as required.
    • Assist the Childcare Teacher with assessments of children as requested and/or participate in parent conferences, as needed.
    • Assist program staff with serving meals and snacks to children.
    • Maintain classroom materials and equipment in a safe and orderly manner.
    • Assume responsibility for classroom operation in the absence of the Childcare Teacher.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Maintain up-to-date accurate written records on children's attendance, results of screenings, assessments, meals, and parent contacts.
    • Participate in staff development opportunities.
    • Attend staff and joint academic program and Center planning meetings.
  • Staff/Parent Duties:
    • Serve as a positive role model for the Center's children, Penn College students, and volunteers.
    • Encourage parental involvement in related Center activities.

Pay Transparency

Hourly rate is $12.80.
