The Childcare Inclusion Paraeducator Substitute supports before and after-school programming for students in grades K–5. Working as part of a collaborative team, substitutes provide a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment by supervising children, leading activities, and helping meet developmental needs of participants, including those with special needs.

Shifts are scheduled within Monday–Friday mornings and afternoons; pay is $24.54 per hour. This position is not eligible for benefits.

Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain certification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective stress management skills with ability to support, guide, and supervise children with special needs, including responding appropriately in crisis situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and implementing engaging, age-appropriate activities for school-age children with accommodations as directed.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive environment that encourages children with special needs to participate in all activities.
  • Provide individualized support: redirect behaviors, assist with feeding, dressing, toileting, and supervision.
  • Build positive relationships with school personnel, Site Manager, staff, families, students, and the public.
  • Set up and organize program spaces and prepare daily materials.
  • Supervise arts, crafts, games, STEM, gym, outdoor play, and field trips.
  • Maintain program records, including documenting behavior support plans.
  • Prepare and serve snacks following health and safety guidelines.
  • Perform light housekeeping and keep spaces organized.
  • Follow district and program policies and safety guidelines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

This includes helping children with special needs to positively adapt to the program environment.

Required Qualifications
  • 18 years of age or older

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education, child development, or a related field
  • Experience working with school-age children in a childcare, recreation, or educational setting
Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and implementing engaging, age-appropriate activities for school-age children while providing accommodations and adaptations as directed
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that encourages children with special needs to participate successfully in all program activities
  • Provide individualized support to participants, including:
    • Redirecting inappropriate behaviors using positive behavior support strategies
    • Assisting with feeding, dressing, repositioning, and other personal care needs
    • Assisting with toileting as required by Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
    • Escorting participants between program areas
    • Supporting positive interactions with peers and adults
    • Providing occasional 1:1 supervision if needed
  • Build positive working relationships with school personnel, Site Manager, staff, parents/guardians, students, and the public
  • Set up and organize program spaces, including moving activity cabinets and preparing materials for daily programming
  • Supervise and actively participate in arts and crafts, games, STEM activities, gym and outdoor play, and field trips
  • Support other program participants when students receiving inclusion services do not require immediate assistance
  • Maintain accurate program records, including documenting and reinforcing behavior support plans as directed
  • Prepare and serve snacks in accordance with health and safety guidelines
  • Perform light housekeeping duties, including wiping tables, sweeping, mopping small areas, and maintaining an organized program space
  • Follow all District, DCYF, and school-age care program policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

May be regularly required to walk throughout a building and may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance or push up to 90 pounds, and must be able to restrain students with proper training and assistance when needed, and may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
