Reporting to the Executive Director, the position supervises 20–30 ECE staff, develops programs, manages enrollment and budgeting, and fosters community engagement to support families and children.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in child development or related field is required.
  • Minimum 4 years direct experience with children under 13 years, including 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the Supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the Childcare Coordinator is responsible for the overall operations. They are responsible for the development, coordination, planning, administration, supervision, and delivery of the Early Childhood Education site

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Knowledge of OEC regulations, YMCA of Greater Hartford procedures,
    rules, regulations, guidelines, and Branch regulations.
  • Serve our diverse communities equitably and act with an inclusive, anti-racist lens at all times; promote a brave, respectful culture at the Y.
  • Oversee ECE..
  • Leads all aspects of the Child Development programming, including
    supervision, coordination, promotion, parent relation, school relations,
    curriculum, scheduling, enrollment, and evaluation.
  • Maintaining an effective file system for all children and staff.
    With assistance from the Associate Executive Director, develop
    the annual operating budget and objectives for ECE.
  • Develop and implement programs for all sites assigned.
  • Trains, supervises, mentors, and evaluates all ECE staff. Supervises 20-30 employees.
  • Responsible for ensuring the site follows OEC regulations, process, and standards to obtain and maintain ECE site.
  • Responsible for purchase, inventory, and delivery of all program supplies.
  • Responsible scheduling staff, substitutes for school age and camp programs
  • Ensure all site operations are consistent with YMCA Association procedures, including emergency procedures, insurance, reporting accidents/incidents, purchasing, personnel, and accounting system.
  • Assist Associate Executive Director to develop resources to expand program and enhance family involvement.
  • Recruit, on board volunteers, and recognizes their contribution to Branch objectives.
  • Works closely with local school systems, administrators, principals, and teachers to assure smooth operations of program services, utilization of resources and proper communications.
  • Ensures quality supervision and safety of all aspects of ECE at designated site through development and implementation of
    handbooks pick up and drop off policies, background checks on all staff and use of National YMCA Child Care Guidelines for all programs. Maintains all necessary OEC regulations and licensing requirements in conjunction with Association Guidelines.
  • Conduct site visitations, monitor, and evaluate all sites and services.
  • Participates in projects as assigned as well as staff training, meetings, product groups, annual campaign, and special events.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of various resources for programming ideas and the skills to utilize that information in directing daily activities.
  • Warm and nurturing personality.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
  • This position may be authorized to have access to protected Health Information (PHI) to perform specific job duties.
  • Must be able to work in Pre-school classroom, possibly work with children with communicable diseases and disabilities.
  • Outdoor playground (possibly without handicapped access).
  • Personal qualifications as required in Part 407: Licensing Standards for Day Care Centers, emotional maturity, willingness to cooperate with the aims of the program, respect for children and adults, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene, and physical and mental health which does not interfere with responsibilities.
  • This position will function as a key member of the total team in developing community relations, lay committees, and long-range planning, as well as the interpretations of YMCA programming to the public.

  • Must have reliable transportation.
EDUCATION:
  • The candidate must possess a Bachelor's Degree in child development or related field.

OR

  • The candidate must possess a Bachelor's Degree with 18 credits in child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation or related field.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of and 4 years direct experience working with children under the age of 13 years, including at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
  • Abilityto always supervise children by sight and sound, provide verbal direction.
  • Ability to move around a room and quickly react to safety issues (i.e. climbing, aggressive behavior).
  • Ability to remain calm, objective and respectful in potentially stressful
    situations (i.e. crying upset child, upset parent, or upset staff).
  • Ability to move around the room to assist children and supervise children
    with daily activities, social interaction, physical and emotional needs, including sitting on the floor, kneeling, bending, stooping.
  • Ability to lift young children and objects up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to use a computer and other office equipment.
  • Ability to move from program site to branch and is required to enter all YMCA environments including, program space, buses, schools, pools, and program area.
