Job summary

Mesa County Department of Human Services seeks a Transportation Specialist to provide safe and timely transportation for children, youth and adults in the child welfare and adult protection system.

The role involves driving clients to therapy, medical appointments, school and other required activities, coordinating with Social Case Workers, and maintaining vehicle readiness. A valid license, clean record, and the ability to lift 20+ pounds are required.

Qualifications

  • Background check required.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds or more.

Responsibilities

  • Drive children and youth to therapy, medical appointments, school, and other activities.
  • Drive at-risk adults to therapy, medical appointments, or other needed locations.
  • Coordinate with Social Case Workers for transportation needs.
  • Ensure vehicle is clean and fueled; understand child safety laws and car seats.
  • Assist clients with unloading/loading and manage driving in stressful situations.

$19.11 - $21.50_____________________________________________________________Mesa County Department of Human Services is looking for a motivated worker to provide transportation services for children, youth and adults who are involved in the child welfare and adult protection system.The transportation specialist will make sure children, youth and at-risk adults arrive at their destination in a safe and timely manner.The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required. The County reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of the job at any time.The transportation specialist will coordinate with Social Case Workers who have clients in need of transportation to and from appointments. This can include:Driving children and youth to therapy, medical appointments, school, family time and any other transportation needsDrive at-risk adults to therapy, medical appointments and any other needed appointmentsUtilize Mesa County VehicleAssure vehicle is clean and gassed upUnderstand child safety laws pertaining to car seatsBasic understanding of child behaviorsAssist clients with unloading and loadingKnowledgeable of area roads and neighborhoodsPolite and professional dispositionAbility to remain calm when driving in a stressful situationOral and written communication must be clear and effective.Performs other duties as assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Minimum age of 21 years old.Hold a valid driver license with a clean driving recordMaintain vehicle insurance at the required level per the HR policyHave a safe, reliable vehicleUndergo a background checkEDUCATION:High school diploma.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 20 or more pounds.Occasional exposure of work time to hazardous situations which involve physically violent persons, interviewing mentally or emotionally disturbed persons or bodily injury from biohazards, infections, or blood-borne pathogens.Work involves a considerable period of time (20-40%) away from a standard office environment, much of which consists of driving to, and from appointment locations. At times more than normal physical exertion is required in transporting children, youth and adults.
