Job summary

The Department of Social Services, Division of Child Protection Services in Sioux Falls, SD, is hiring for a full-time position. Starting pay is $27.00 per hour, dependent on qualifications, with a closing date of 09/18/26.

The ideal candidate will assess safety, provide intervention services, work with courts, help find foster or adoptive homes, and support families from diverse backgrounds. A bachelor's degree is preferred and strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a human service-related field preferred.
• Relevant experience may be considered.
• Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work with diverse families and in high-stress situations.

Responsibilities

• Complete assessments with families from diverse backgrounds alleged to have maltreated their children.
• Analyze danger threats to children and provide intervention services after safety determinations.
• Support ongoing safety management through out-of-home placement or in-home safety plans.
• Work with the court system and testify when children are placed in state custody.
• Identify and locate relatives for placement resources and assist foster/adoptive matching.
• Respond to emergencies 24/7 and may require evening/weekend availability; travel as needed.
