Job summary

Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare in Tallahassee, FL seeks a Child Life Specialist to support psychosocial and developmental care for pediatric patients and families. You will plan developmentally appropriate experiences to promote coping with health care and growth, and collaborate with the care team.

The role reports to the Pediatric Nurse Manager and requires completion of a full-time internship (450 hours) in a pediatric Child Life program, plus certification or eligibility by the Child Life

Qualifications

• Minimum educational requirement and internship requirements specified.
• Certification or eligibility within 18 months per Child Life Council.

Responsibilities

• Provides psychosocial and developmental based assessment and support to both patients and their families.
• Plans and provides emotionally and developmentally appropriate experiences to promote coping with health care and continued cognitive and emotional growth.
• Enhances quality of patient care through participation, documentation, and communication with other members, volunteers, and child life interns/practicum students.
• Serves as a resource and advocate on child development

Reports: Pediatric Nurse Manager

Supervises:Oversees the Volunteer Program for all departments in The Children’s Center. Supervises all student Interns to include multiple disciplines such as Art, Family & Child Life Sciences, Child Life Practicum, and Creating Opportunities for Parent Empowerment Program (COPE).

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO APPLY

Required Education:

• Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Child Life. Preferred: Master's degree in Child Life or Human Development.

Required Experience:

• Must have completed a full time (min 450 hours) internship in a qualified Child Life program in a pediatric facility, under the supervision and advisement of a Certified Child Life Specialist

Required Certification/License/Registry:

• Must be certified as a Child Life Specialist by the Child Life Council or be eligible and obtain certification within 18 months of start date and maintain professional affiliations and license through the Child Life Council.
