Job summary

St. Louis Children's Hospital is seeking a Part-time Child Life Specialist to work in our emergency department. Schedule: 10:30 AM-11 PM, 1 day per week, every 3rd weekend. The role focuses on family-centered care and psychosocial preparation for hospitalization and procedures.

The position supports the Child Life Department with activities, projects and education, while contributing to hospital-wide awareness of services and community engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Life/Educ/Life Science with a Child Life Internship.
  • No experience required.
  • Preferred: less than 2 years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with health care professionals to provide family-centered care.
  • Deliver child life services including psycho-social preparation for hospitalization, procedures, surgeries.
  • Assist with planning activities, special projects, meetings and outcome measures in the department.
  • Increase awareness of child life services across the hospital via information sharing and education.

Role Purpose

To provide the scope of child life services to children and families who are receiving services from St. Louis Children's Hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with health care professionals and hospital staff to provide optimal family centered care.
  • Provides child life services to patients and families as assessed and prioritized including psycho-social preparation for hospitalization, procedures, surgeries, and/or other potentially stressful events.
  • Actively contributes to the efficient operation of the Child Life Department, planning activities, special projects, meetings and outcome measures.
  • Increases awareness of child life services throughout the hospital by providing information about the services, role modeling, medical record documentation and in-service education.
