The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Child Life or related field, completion of the clinical internship, and certification within one year of hire.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Recreation Therapy, Child Development Education or a closely related field.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with hospital personnel to identify and manage patient’s psychosocial needs and referrals.
• Participates in unit rounds, patient care conferences and inter-disciplinary rounds.
• Educates staff on the impact of hospitalization on children and developmentally appropriate coping techniques.
• Develops and implements department performance improvement initiatives and child life shared decision-making.
• Selects and uses diagnosis-specific teaching tools for the population served.
• Adapts educational materials to patient/family developmental level and emotional status.
• Advocates for psychosocial needs of patients and families.
