Job summary

Boston Children's Hospital is seeking a Child Life Specialist for 30 hours weekly across CHPCC Primary Care and Cardiac inpatient units. You will participate in therapeutic activities, support families, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ease the patient experience from birth through young adulthood.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, a 600-hour internship, and Child Life Certification within one year of hire.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life or related field with a concentration in child life.
• 600-hour internship under supervision of a certified child life specialist.
• Certification in Child Life within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Participate in therapeutic activities to meet psychosocial needs and help adjust to care.
• Serve as a multidisciplinary team member and support patients and families.
• Provide coping support during hospitalizations and maintain unit resources.
• Delegate tasks to volunteers and assist in training interns.

Job description

Position Summary

Child Life Specialist 30 hours (two, 10 hours days in CHPCC Primary Care and one, 10 hour day in Cardiac in-patient).

  • Participating in therapeutic activities and programs to meet patients' psychosocial and developmental needs, and facilitating adjustment to health care experiences for patients

  Key Responsibilities:
  
  
  
  • Common interventions include support for procedures, siblings, development, and bereavement
  
  
  • Providing coping support for patients with both short and long-term hospitalizations
  
  
  • Maintaining resources which include ordering and stocking unit areas
  
  
  • Delegating work assignments to volunteers and participates in clinical training of student interns.

  Minimum Qualifications Education:
  
  
  
  • Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life.
  
  
  • 600-hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist.
  
  
  • General skills to resolve problems requiring the use of child development theory, professional child life principles, and experiencedbased knowledge.
  
  
  • Well-developed writing skills, and excellent communication skills including conflict resolution to effectively work as a team member.
  
  
  • Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hire
  
  
  
  

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
