Job Title

EHS Child Development Specialist – Head Start / Early Head Start – Child Care Services, Research, and Advocacy

Overview

We are looking for a dedicated and community‑minded EHS Child Development Specialist to provide high quality services to our Family Child Care Home (FCCH) programs and serve children from birth to kindergarten age. Candidates must ensure all comprehensive Head Start services are integrated with the FCCH and approach families’ needs holistically, ensuring full integration of health, nutrition, mental health, disabilities, parent involvement, and social services.

Responsibilities

• Provide Early Head Start services to children in a FCCH setting.
• Document services in the areas of education, family services, disabilities, mental health, nutrition, and health.
• Engage families in a goal‑setting process leading to a family partnership agreement and collaborative planning.
• Establish trusting and culturally responsive relationships with Family Child Care Providers and work with families to engage them in goal‑setting, providing resources that meet diverse needs including health, nutrition, mental health, social services, job preparedness, crisis intervention, and support services.
• Conduct weekly site visits to each assigned FCCH provider and complete the Site Visit Report accurately.

Qualifications

• BA degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Human Development, or a related field with knowledge of child development from birth to 3 (educational requirement).
• Must hold or be eligible for a California Commission of Teachers Teacher Permit.
• Minimum of two years experience in a state‑funded child care program with a focus on supporting and empowering families.
• Strong computer skills and ability to adapt.

Special Requirements

• Reliable transportation and possession of a valid California Driver License with good standing and current liability insurance.
• Must meet state health requirements, including a physical examination, Live Scan, TB clearance, and required vaccinations.
