Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware is seeking a Child Care Director to plan, develop, and implement a licensed early care and childcare program that complies with Delacare and STARS rules. You will oversee staff and budgets, partner with families, and ensure safe, age-appropriate activities.

The role requires strong leadership and regulatory knowledge. As part of the club team, you will coordinate program goals with the Club Childcare Director and Unit Director to deliver high-quality early

Qualifications

  • Experience working with preschool and school-age children.
  • Must pass FBI clearance and state background checks per Delacare regulations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent recognized by Delaware DOE; TECE 1/TECE 2.
  • Early Childhood Administrator Certificate; Associates degree in related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operation of the licensed preschool/childcare and summer camp program.
  • Ensure compliance with current Delacare and Delaware STARS rules and regulations.
  • Control expenditures against the assigned budget and assist with financial development of the childcare program.
  • Directly supervise children and youth within program guidelines and licensing requirements.
  • Maintain communication with parents/guardians concerning programs, progress, and payments.
  • Develop and track attendance, health checks, and medical issues; complete reports and administer reimbursements.
  • Collaborate with Club Childcare Director and Unit Director to set objectives and plan lessons.

For over 90 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware has impacted thousands of lives across Delaware. We are the largest licensed provider of childcare in Delaware and the only statewide Boys & Girls Club in the nation.

Each and everyday girls and boys are left to find their own recreation and companionship. An increasing number of kids are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know they have a place in their community where they can go. Clubs provide a safe haven for youth, allow them to meet with friends and be a part of positive peer groups. Club programs teach life skills, conflict resolution and focus on the development of character. Clubs also provide members with positive role models and a nurturing environment that help improve decision‑making skills.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Child Care Director is responsible for the planning, development and effective implementation of the operationof a quality early care childcare program that complies with current Delacare and Delaware STARS rules and regulations. The position includes program management and staff supervision. The position requires knowledge of various educational approaches, software and other educational materials.

Essential Functions
  • Manage day-to-day operation of the licensed preschool/childcareand summer camp program.
  • Interpret and maintain compliance withcurrent state licensing requirements for early care childcare centers; addressnon-compliance issues as needed.
  • Control expenditures against anassigned budget; recommend income and expense projections for assigned areas of responsibility; assist with the financial development of the childcare program.
  • Ensure safe implementation of allchildcare activities including the condition of equipment and facilities,
  • age-appropriate activities and appropriate use of equipment and supplies.
  • Directly supervise children and youthwithin guidelines established by Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware, and incompliance with applicable state licensing and Delaware Starts regulations.
  • Maintain regular contact withparents/guardians concerning programs, schedules, developmental progress
  • (including behavioral issues), payments, etc.
  • Work with families to generateindividual learning goals for children
  • Work closely with Club ChildcareDirector and Unit Director to establish clear objectives for lessons, units and projects and communicates.
  • Organize and lead activities topromote physical, mental, and social development such as games, arts, crafts music and storytelling.
  • Adapt teaching methods andinstructional materials to meet students at varying needs and interests.
  • Arrange indoor and outdoor space tofacilitatecreative play, motor skills and safety.
  • Regularly observe, evaluate anddocument children’s’ performance, behavior and social development and physical health.
  • Conduct assessments to determinechildren’s development levels, needs and potential and work through
  • Ages and Stages and also partnering with the local school district if needed
  • Within established organizationalguidelines, develop and maintain systems for accurately tracking attendance,payments, health checks, and medicalissues, and other related information.
  • Complete and submit reports andperform other administrative tasks as needed or directed, including purchase of Care reimbursements.
  • Contribute toward development of apositive identity and strong presence for the Boys & Girls Clubs in the
  • community.
  • Assume other tasks, assignments andresponsibilities as needed or directed.
  • Support and contribute to the successof other staff members.
Qualification and Education Requirements
  • Twenty (20) years of age or older
  • Experience working with preschool and school age children
  • Must be able to pass an FBI clearance, State
  • of Delaware Criminal History Background Check, National and State Sexual Abuse
  • Registry check, and National and State Child Abuse Registry Check per Delacare
  • regulations.
  • High school diploma or its equivalency recognized by
  • the Delaware Department of Education and TECE 1 and TECE 2
  • One (1) year of full time experience (must be
  • equivalent to 1,000 hours) working with either preschool or school-age children.
  • Early Childhood Administrator Certificate

  • Associates degree in a related field (earlychildhood, psychology, social work, special education, elementary education
Working Conditions
  • Frequentlylifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 25pounds when preparing room for instruction.
  • Typicallybends, stoops, walks and sometimes runs on a regular basis while interactingwith children in various activities throughout the day.
  • Abilityto perform duties effectively under stressful conditions; ability to make decisions quickly and accurately with tact and impartiality.
  • Abilityto understand and follow verbal and written instructions and communicateeffectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Highenergy, comfort with multi-tasking, able to work with numerous deadlines.
Work Hours

6:45am - 9:45am & 1:30pm - 6pm, Non School Days varies 6:45am - 6pm
