Job summary

SAL Community Services connects the community to services that ensure every child can succeed and every adult has access to basic needs. The Child Care Assistance Program Specialist helps families find child care and determine eligibility for state programs, supporting the Illinois Department of Human Services.

You will manage a caseload, verify eligibility, and process various child care subsidies, with a focus on serving families with low income in a collaborative, supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Required: High School Diploma or equivalency certificate (GED).
• Preferred: Associate’s degree (or 66 hours of college credit).
• Experience with or knowledge of Child Care Resource and Referral Service or child care services and experience working with families with low income and/or child care subsidies is desired.

Responsibilities

• Help families determine eligibility of state-funded programs.
• Process Illinois Department of Human Services and Child Care Resource and Referral reports.
• Maintain assigned caseload of subsidized child care services for both parents and child care providers as contracted by IDHS.
• Verify client and child care provider eligibility in the assigned caseload.
• Process applications, approvals, cancellations, denials and redeterminations.

The Child Care Assistance Program Specialist position is a critical member of our Child Care Connection team, a program under SAL Community Services. In the role, you get to help families find child care providers and determine if they’re eligible for child care assistance and support the Illinois Department of Human Services. You will:

• Work with families to determine eligibility of state-funded programs.
• Process Illinois Department of Human Services and Child Care Resource and Referral reports.
• Maintain assigned caseload of subsidized child care services for both parents and child care providers as contracted by IDHS.
• Verify client and child care provider eligibility in assigned caseload.
• Process applications, approvals, cancellations, denials and redeterminations.
