Job summary

Child Care Aware of Virginia (CCAoVA) seeks a Child Care Access Specialist to help families navigate Virginia's child care system, provide resource information, and connect them with statewide services. The role emphasizes consumer education, outreach, and collaboration with partners across the state.

The position is primarily remote, with travel required for meetings, trainings, and events; Richmond area travel is expected.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of professional experience in customer service, community outreach, parent or adult education, referral services, family support, or direct-service work.
• Knowledge of the child care/early childhood field and/or experience with adult education / adult learning principles
• Experience / demonstrated capabilities in data entry and management
• Ability to work remotely from a home-based office and on-site for events as needed
• Background checks: pass state and national criminal history, child protective services, and sex offender registry

Help Virginia Families Access the Child Care They Need

Are you passionate about helping families navigate their search for child care and connecting people with information and resources that make a difference? Do you enjoy working directly with people, building community relationships, sharing useful information, and helping make complex systems easier to understand?

Child Care Aware of Virginia (CCAoVA) is seeking a Child Care Access Specialist to support statewide efforts to improve access to child care through consumer education, community outreach, resource development, public awareness, and child care referral services.

The CCAoVA Child Care Resource and Referral Network works across the Commonwealth to secure and support an accessible, safe child care system that effectively serves all families with children ages 0–12 and child care professionals in all care settings.

In this role, you will help families and other child care consumers navigate Virginia's child care system, while also supporting statewide outreach, family-focused advocacy, child safety awareness campaigns, and the development and dissemination of consumer resources. You will collaborate with CCAoVA staff, regional teams, community partners, employers, and other stakeholders to make child care information more accessible, understandable, and useful to families across Virginia.

Key Responsibilities:

Our Child Care Access Specialist provides high-quality consumer education, consultation, and child care referral services to families in all Virginia communities, while supporting broader initiatives that increase awareness of and access to child care resources and services statewide.

The Specialist serves as a trusted connector and resource for families, employers, community partners, and other child care consumers. In addition to responding to consumer inquiries and providing individualized child care information, this position supports the development and distribution of family-facing resources, community outreach, social media outreach, and maintenance of information in CCAoVA's statewide child care database.

The Specialist also supports CCAoVA's family-focused advocacy efforts and child safety awareness campaigns, helping connect families and communities with information related to child care access, affordability, children's health and safety, and other issues affecting children and families.

This position is primarily remote and home-based; however, the Specialist must be able and willing to travel for CCAoVA meetings, trainings, community events, advocacy activities, and other statewide activities. Many CCAoVA and state-sponsored activities are conducted in Richmond, VA, so travel to and from the Richmond area must be feasible and should be expected.

They should be comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities, communicating with diverse audiences, and representing CCAoVA in communities across Virginia.

Required Qualifications:

• Required Experience: 1–2 years of professional experience in customer service, community outreach, parent or adult education, referral services, family support, or other direct-service work.
  • Preferred experience in / knowledge of child care resource and referral, parent/consumer education
  • Knowledge of the child care/early childhood field and/or experience with adult education / adult learning principles
  • Experience / demonstrated capabilities in data entry and management
• Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in a child-related, human services, education, communications, or related field, with an appropriate combination of education and professional experience considered.
  • Ability to work remotely from a home-based office, as well as on-site to support agency operations and attend local and statewide agency and community events
  • Proficient technical and communication skills; experience in all standard software programs (i.e.: Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, 365 and Google Drive), experience in web-based research, data entry, database / web platform management and email, and the willingness to learn and use new computer programs / applications to support service and process improvements (such as Canva, Constant Contact, Adobe Pro, Survey Monkey)

$52,000 – $55,000 / year
