Child and Youth Program Training and Curriculum Specialist

Summary

The purpose of the Child and Youth Program (CYP) Training and Curriculum (T&C) Specialist position is threefold: (1) to provide and deliver a comprehensive training program to CYP professionals and alike, that supports the professional requirements of their positions; (2) to assist with the implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum/program for children and youth, ages 6 weeks to 18 years; and (3) to promote school readiness and support ongoing school success.

Responsibilities
  1. Training: Orients new employees to the CYP system, provides basic information applicable in all settings, works with CYP Directors to establish training plans, and arranges for training opportunities including management, administration, food service, and staff training. Executes DoN Standardized Module Training, maintains training records, and encourages professional development.
  2. Classroom/Program Support: Implements Navy curriculum, supports developmentally appropriate programming, evaluates classroom environments, reviews lesson plans, and supports parent education programs.
  3. Compliance: Provides training for compliance with fire, safety, and sanitation rules, and supports inspections and accreditation processes.
  4. Additional Responsibilities: May assume CYP Director responsibilities in their absence, and is a mandatory reporter for child abuse and neglect cases.
Minimum Requirements
  • Background checks, physical, immunizations, and valid driver’s license.
  • Appropriate security clearance and certifications as per accreditation standards.
  • Participation in Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • Compliance with drug-free workplace policies, including negative drug tests.
Qualifications

Experience and knowledge in managing child and youth programs, training adults, understanding laws on child abuse prevention, and familiarity with accreditation standards. Skills in program planning, curriculum development, leadership, emergency response, and effective communication. Education requirements include a Master’s in Early Childhood Education or Child Development with relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with more experience, or equivalent coursework and experience.
