Full‑Time, 40 hour weekly position with the SD Human Services Center.

The South Dakota Human Services Center, a behavioral health hospital that provides services in adult acute psychiatric, psychiatric rehabilitation, substance use disorder treatment, geriatrics, and adolescent patients, located in Yankton, is seeking a board eligible/board certified Psychiatrist to serve the adolescent patients.

Duties include:
  • diagnosis of patients;
  • establishing and directing treatment plans for adolescent patients;
  • serving as a member of a treatment team which reviews and determines prescribed treatment;
  • prescribes medication for patients;
  • monitors therapeutic progress of patients;
  • instructing medical students in treatment methodology and evaluates their work;
  • provides consultations as requested.
Licenses and Certifications:

Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of South Dakota.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Knowledge of:
  • methods and principles of medicine;
  • diagnosis, care and treatment of patients, including adolescents, with mental illness;
  • recent research and developments in psychiatry;
  • principles and procedures of in‑patient treatment;
  • psychiatric evaluation of patients;
  • psychotropic medications.
Ability to:
  • diagnose and classify mental disorders with established criteria as set forth in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual;
  • write psychiatric evaluation reports and discharge summaries;
  • prescribe appropriate medications and monitor results;
  • exchange ideas, information and opinions with others to formulate treatment plans;
  • work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and collaborate with colleagues;
  • communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
