Job summary

Rhode Island Hospital is seeking a Behavioral Health Specialist II to provide compassionate care and safety for children and adolescents as part of an interdisciplinary team. You will help shape day-to-day milieu scheduling and participate in crisis de-escalation and patient management under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed care, collaboration with the treatment team, and ability to work across shifts as needed to maintain a safe therapeutic environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a human service field preferred.
• Safety Care Certification required for psychiatric setting.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Six months to one year of direct childcare work with similar populations.

Responsibilities

• Maintains milieu as delegated by Charge RN and reports variations.
• Works independently within program policies and demonstrates competence.
• Uses safe, effective crisis management techniques.
• Organizes therapeutic unit activities and supports BHS I learning.
• Provides guidance and role modeling to less-senior staff.
• Orients new BHS I under supervision.
• Reports peer concerns to Charge RN/ANM/CNM.
• May perform duties in other clinical settings as needed.
• Provides daily feedback to Charge RN about patient behaviors.
