Job description

About Papillon Media Group

Papillon Media Group is an emerging entertainment company at the intersection of music, film, and technology.

We develop and distribute original film and digital entertainment content, while discovering, developing, and elevating music artists and building a next-generation digital platform that connects creators and audiences in one seamless experience.

Our platform is designed to do more than stream — it connects. By bringing together compelling storytelling, artist discovery and development, and innovative technology, we’re creating new ways for audiences to engage with the content and artists they love, while giving creators greater opportunities to grow, monetize, and build lasting careers.

About the Role

We’re seeking an entrepreneurial, hands-on CTO to own our technology strategy end-to-end — platform architecture, technology partnerships, engineering leadership, and execution — for a next-generation platform spanning film, music, artists, and digital entertainment. This is a foundational hire: equally comfortable setting long-term strategy and executing an early-stage roadmap, ideal for a builder who can take an idea from whiteboard to scaled consumer product.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technology Strategy & Architecture:Define and execute the technology vision, architecture, and roadmap for a scalable film and music streaming platform, including determining what technology should be built internally versus sourced through strategic partners.
  • Platform Development & Launch:Lead the platform from concept through MVP, commercial launch, and scale across web, mobile, and connected-TV applications.
  • Streaming & Content Technology:Oversee the infrastructure required to ingest, manage, protect, and distribute film, music, and digital entertainment content, including cloud infrastructure, streaming technology, DRM, content rights, metadata, and digital asset management.
  • Product & Consumer Experience:Partner with executive leadership to translate the company’s entertainment strategy into an intuitive consumer product encompassing subscriptions, profiles, search, playlists, watchlists, content discovery, and personalized recommendations.
  • Data, AI & Personalization:Establish the company’s data and analytics strategy and leverage AI and machine learning to enhance content discovery, recommendations, customer engagement, and platform operations.
  • Subscriptions & Platform Integration:Oversee subscription billing, payments, authentication, user entitlements, app-store integrations, and other third-party technology partnerships.
  • Security, Scalability & Reliability:Ensure the platform meets high standards for cybersecurity, content protection, privacy, reliability, performance, and scalability.
  • Engineering Leadership:Build and lead a high-performing technology organization, including engineering, product development, data, DevOps, and external development partners.
  • Technology Partnerships & Budget:Select and manage cloud, streaming, development, and technology vendors while maintaining disciplined technology budgets and infrastructure costs.
  • Executive Leadership:Serve as the company’s senior technology advisor, communicating technology strategy, investment requirements, risks, and opportunities to the CEO, executive leadership, Board, investors, and strategic partners.
What Success Looks Like
  • A clear technology roadmap and scalable architecture for Papillon’s film and music streaming platform
  • Successful development and commercial launch of the platform MVP, with clear measures of adoption, engagement, performance, and scalability
  • A scalable cloud, streaming, content, data and security infrastructure
  • A strong initial engineering organization and technology partner ecosystem
  • Data, AI and personalization capabilities that create measurable competitive advantages for Papillon
What We’re Looking For
  • 10–15 years of progressive technology/engineering leadership, including prior CTO, VP of Engineering, or comparable senior technology role
  • Demonstrated experience taking a consumer digital product from concept through commercial launch and scale
  • Strong knowledge of video and/or audio streaming architecture, cloud infrastructure (AWS or comparable), CDN delivery, content security/DRM, APIs, and data/AI systems
  • Experience managing technology budgets, vendors, and both internal and outsourced engineering talent
  • Entrepreneurial, builder mindset — comfortable operating with speed, resourcefulness, and discipline in an early-stage environment
  • Preferred: experience in streaming/OTT, music, entertainment, or consumer subscription technology
  • Strong product orientation with experience translating business and consumer needs into scalable technology solutions
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred, or equivalent significant technology leadership experience
What We Offer
  • Executive Compensation:Competitive base salary and performance-based bonus.
  • Equity Opportunity:Meaningful opportunity to participate in the long-term growth and value creation of Papillon Media Group.
  • Foundational Leadership Role:The opportunity to architect and build a next-generation entertainment technology platform from the ground up.
  • Executive Influence:A seat at the leadership table with significant influence over product, technology, AI, and the company’s long-term strategy.
  • Build Your Team:The opportunity to shape and build the technology organization, engineering culture, and strategic partner ecosystem.
  • Industry Impact:An opportunity to help redefine how audiences discover and experience film, music, artists, and digital entertainment.
  • Comprehensive Benefits:Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Flexible Work Environment:Hybrid/flexible work environment with collaboration at our New Jersey headquarters.
