Job description

Chief Systems Engineer

As a hands‑on, multidisciplinary leader at IDE Group, you will guide complex medical device development programs across our U.S. and global teams.

Responsibilities
  • Invent and create new products and product opportunities.
  • Identify valuable problems & solutions; define user needs, system architecture, and technical pathways forward.
  • Invent and engineer new electro‑mechanical concepts.
  • Lead systems engineering and product development activities, driving product realization from early concept through commercialization.
  • Work across global teams (USA ↔ Australia)
    • Collaborate daily with Sydney‑based engineering, design, and venture‑building teams.
    • Co‑develop system architectures, verification strategies, design reviews, and technical decision‑making.
  • Manage and integrate multidisciplinary technical teams
    • Coordinate systems, mechanical, electrical, software, design, and human‑factors engineers to deliver high‑quality, commercially viable results.
  • Product Leadership: work with the Business Unit Director and Client to challenge briefs, identify valuable problems/solutions, and lead technical resources.
  • Project Planning: work with the project lead to define solutions, assist in planning and estimating.
  • Technical Execution: select or modify processes, define quality levels, and ensure achievement.
  • Risk Management: identify and manage product risks with effective controls.
  • Review and Approvals: ensure effective technical reviews and conduct system level design reviews.
  • Mentor and coach team members.
Qualifications & Experience
  • 8+ years in product design and development, with a track record of inventing or leading new technologies/products (ideally in MedTech or similar regulated industries).
  • Experience developing products and managing teams of three or more technical resources through all product development stages.
  • Experience managing, directing, and reviewing outputs from technical personnel across disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of medical device development processes and regulated quality systems (ISO 13485, FDA Design Controls).
  • Significant demonstrated understanding of product development processes, methodologies, and practices (e.g., design thinking, agile development, design controls).
  • Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic, Electrical, Biomedical Engineering, or a comparable technical discipline.
