Job summary

Town of Davie, FL is seeking a Building Inspector to assist the Building Official in administering the Building Division and enforcing Florida Building Code requirements. You will support permitting, plan review, scheduling inspections, and enforcement activities to ensure compliance with state law.

The role involves interpreting codes for architects, engineers, owners, and contractors, reviewing plans, and supervising subordinate inspectors.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited High School or GED equivalent.
• Certification as required by the BORA: Standard Plans Examiner and Standard Inspector, or a Florida registered architect or Florida licensed professional engineer.

Responsibilities

• Assist Building Official in administering the Building Division and enforcing codes.
• Develop and maintain inspection records and ensure scheduling of inspections.
• Interpret Building Code for architects, engineers, and contractors and advise on compliance.
• Review plans, supervise inspectors, and coordinate with county boards on code issues.
• Support Building Safety Inspection Program and assist in policy planning.

Job description

Under general supervision, provides assistance to the Building Official in the general administration of the Building Division. Assists with the implementation of regulatory requirements pertaining to permitting, plan review, enforcement, scheduling inspections and inspection of projects indicating compliance with construction codes as required by State Law and the Florida Building Code.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Develop and maintain the required records and database entry on all inspections.
• Interprets Building Code and related ordinances for architects, engineers, building owners and contractors and advises steps toward compliance.
• Reviews plans and supervises workload and performance of subordinate building inspectors.
• Maintains contact with Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals for exchange of information regarding code violation cases and appeals.
• Performs other related work as required.
• Perform other duties as directed by the Building Official.
• Assists in the BSIP (Building Safety Inspection Program).
• Assists in the planning, coordination, and supervision of Building Division policies, programs, and operations.
• Performs other related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduation from an accredited High School or GED equivalent.
• Must meet the qualifications for Chief Structural Inspector, such person shall be certified as required by the BCAIB as a Standard Plans Examiner and Standard Inspector or be a Florida Registered Architect or Florida Licensed Professional Engineer in the discipline requested pursuant to Section 104.8 of the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals.
• 104.8.1 Such person shall be certified by BORA and shall meet at least one of the following qualifications:
• 104.8.1.1 Be a Standard Plans Examiner appointed as such, for a minimum of one (1) year by an AHJ or school board within the State of Florida and who complies with at least one (1) of the qualifications of Section 104.10.1.1.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Each applicant shall possess a current Certificate of Competency as a G.C. or a Professional Engineer license or Architect registration issued by at least one of the following entities:
  • Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board.
  • Broward County Central Examining Board of Building Construction Trades.
  • Miami-Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board.
  • Florida Board of Professional Engineers.
  • Department of Business and Professional Regulation as an Architect.
• Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Driver's license must not have been suspended within five (5) years of the date of this application (Not Insurance related).
