Job summary

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory seeks a Chief Scientist in Quantum Computing to lead end-to-end, system-level research across the quantum computing stack, including architectures, compilers, and fault-tolerant scalability. The role supports the Quantum Science Center and internal research investments.

The candidate will coordinate cross-team research on large-scale, noise-aware simulation, quantum modeling, and hybrid quantum–classical execution, while mentoring researchers and publishing

Qualifications

• PhD with 5+ years of relevant experience; MS/MA with 7+ years; BS/BA with 9+ years.
• Demonstrated impact and recognition in quantum computing systems, architectures, or software.
• Strong knowledge of quantum error correction and fault-tolerant architectures.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior scientific leadership in quantum computing architectures, compilation, and large-scale simulation.
• Guide research across the full quantum computing stack, including architectures, compilers, simulation, and hybrid quantum–classical execution.
• Publish results in peer-reviewed venues and mentor staff, scientists, and postdocs.
