Job summary

South Dakota State University invites applications to become the next Vice President for Research and Economic Development, the Chief Research Officer overseeing sponsored programs, research integrity, regulatory compliance, technology transfer, and economic development partnerships.

The VPRED will report to the President, lead the Division of Research and Economic Development, and drive strategies to expand SDState’s research enterprise and regional impact, with a start date anticipated January

Qualifications

Earned terminal degree and evidence of scholarly, professional, or creative achievement sufficient to qualify for tenure.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive, executive-level leadership experience managing a complex research enterprise in higher education, government, or industry.
Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement strategies to increase external funding, research, and creative activities across all disciplines.
Develop and execute the university research strategic plan and agenda to achieve growth and R1 status.
Engage with federal agencies and South Dakota’s Congressional delegation for research funding and partnerships.
Identify and promote research competitiveness by supporting faculty in securing external funding.
Oversee the Office of Sponsored Programs and collaboration with the University Research Council.
