Job summary

Northwestern University is seeking an Assistant Vice President for Research, Compliance (AVP), to lead the Office for Research compliance functions, including IRB, IACUC, and Research Integrity, with governance across regulatory requirements. Frequent campus presence and cross-unit collaboration are essential in this senior leadership role.

The AVP will guide policy development, engage with federal and state regulators, and work with CCM and clinical affiliates to ensure ethical and compliant

Qualifications

• 10+ years in a research or regulatory environment, with emphasis on compliance and research administration.
• Advanced degree required (e.g., MA, MS, JD, PhD).
• Strong leadership and staff development abilities.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws/regulations and ability to interpret for diverse audiences.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical and organizational skills.
• Ability to work with diverse constituencies including faculty, staff, students, and oversight agencies.
• Commitment to high ethical standards and managing confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and guidance to IRB Office, IACUC Office, and Research Integrity Office to ensure efficient compliance operations.
• Oversee HRPP and animal oversight programs and ensure regulatory adherence across research entities.
• Guide policy interpretation and revisions; influence policy through university committees.
• Collaborate with central compliance and university units to align research compliance with broader governance.
• Build and maintain relationships with clinical affiliates and national bodies; participate in national forums.
