Job summary

Ben Aris LLC seeks a Chief Refinery Inspector to lead the inspection department, ensuring reliability, safety, and integrity of fixed equipment through oversight of programs and engineering support.

The role requires strong technical expertise in pressure vessels, piping, and related assets, plus experience directing both in‑house and contract personnel during turnarounds and long projects.

Qualifications

• BS degree preferred or HS diploma with equivalent experience.
• Years experience with fixed equipment reliability and/or engineering experience required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the Inspection Department to ensure reliability of fixed equipment.
• Provide technical expertise in the design, fabrication, repair, testing of pressure vessels, piping, and fixed assets.
• Oversee in-house and contract inspection personnel during turnarounds and long-duration projects.
• Develop programs to improve the integrity, safety, and performance of fixed equipment.
• Perform root cause and metallurgical failure analyses, including corrosion studies.
• Review inspection reports to ensure compliance with codes and safety standards.
• Assist in turnaround planning with inspection scope and strategy.
• Issue detailed inspection summaries and technical recommendations.
• Research repair methods and design solutions per codes and specs.
• Support Mechanical Reliability Manager as backup when required.

The Chief Refinery Inspector will oversee the inspection department to ensure the reliability, integrity, and safety of fixed equipment through effective supervision, inspection programs, and engineering support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Leads and mentors the Inspection Department, ensuring consistent execution of inspection programs and overall reliability of fixed equipment.
• Provides technical expertise in the design, fabrication, repair, alteration, and testing of pressure vessels, piping, and other fixed assets.
• Oversees and coordinates both in-house and contract inspection personnel during turnarounds, shutdowns, and long-duration inspection projects.
• Develops and maintains programs focused on improving the integrity, safety, and performance of fixed equipment.
• Performs and directs root cause and metallurgical failure analyses, including corrosion studies and material evaluations.
• Reviews, edits, and approves inspection reports and recommendations to ensure compliance with engineering requirements, industry codes, and safety standards.
• Provides guidance in turnaround planning activities, offering input on inspection scope and execution strategy.
• Prepares and issues detailed inspection summaries, technical reports, and recommendations following inspections or equipment failures.
• Researches and recommends repair methods and design solutions consistent with applicable codes, standards, and specifications.
• Supports the Mechanical Reliability Manager by assisting with department oversight and stepping in as backup when required.

Requirements & Qualifications:
