Job summary

Valero Energy is seeking a Chief Refinery Inspector to lead the Inspection Department at the Texas City Refinery, overseeing contract inspectors during shutdowns and providing expertise in inspection, testing, and repair of fixed equipment. Requires a High School diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in fixed equipment reliability or engineering, with willingness to work on-site.

  • 10 years of experience with fixed equipment reliability and/or engineering experience required.
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Texas City Refinery, required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide leadership to the Inspection Department.
  • Coordinate contract inspection personnel during shutdown and extended duration projects.
  • Develop and implement programs to ensure the reliability and safety of fixed equipment.
  • Provide root cause failure analysis of components including corrosion research and metallurgical analysis.
  • Publish written reports on inspection findings and failure analysis; review and edit inspection recommendations for code and engineering compliance.
  • Provide expertise regarding design, fabrication, repair, alteration, inspection, and testing of equipment.
  • Provide fixed equipment design and repair expertise through research and repair recommendations per industry codes and standards.
  • Provide inspection guidance in turnaround planning.
  • Review and edit inspection recommendations and reports for code and engineering compliance.
  • Support and backfill the Mechanical Reliability Manager as needed.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 10 years of experience with fixed equipment reliability and/or engineering experience required.
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Texas City Refinery, required.
