Job summary

The Tennessee Medical Group Management Association seeks a Chief Operating Officer to provide enterprise-wide operational leadership for a physician-owned, multi-site medical group with about 2,300 employees.

Reporting to the CEO, the COO partners with the Board, physician leadership, and the executive team to translate strategic priorities into high-performing operations across clinics, ancillary services, and centralized platforms, ensuring a consistent patient and provider experience.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive healthcare operations leadership in a multi-site physician-led environment.
• Experience leading distributed operations at scale with centralized service models.
• Proven ability to build and lead strong teams, set expectations, and drive accountability.
• Experience partnering with physicians, executive teams, and governing bodies including Boards.
• Strong track record translating strategy into execution across enterprise initiatives.
• Oversight of operations including clinic ops, ancillary services, marketing, facilities, and EHR optimization.

Responsibilities

• Directs nine senior leaders overseeing key operational areas (ancillary services, marketing, EHR optimization, facilities, acquisitions).
• Provides executive oversight to 200+ team members and drives leadership development and performance.
• On-site, full-time executive leadership role at Summit’s Knoxville headquarters with frequent regional travel.
