Job description

Our client is an established Miami based nonprofit that has expanded quickly over the last several years and now works with community partners on a meaningful scale. The team has a startup mentality and a real sense of urgency, and leadership wants to add the kind of operating structure that lets the organization keep growing without losing that energy.

The Opportunity

Our client is looking to hire a Chief Operating Officer who can take ownership of internal operations and put in place the management foundation the organization needs for its next phase. This person will report to the CEO and sit at the center of the leadership team as the organization's top operating executive.

This role suits an executive who has already helped run an organization of similar size or larger, and who wants to bring more order and accountability to a growing team without slowing it down.

What You Will Do

  • Run day to day operations for the organization and make sure the CEO's priorities are implemented
  • Manage and coach the leadership team so each department head owns their results
  • Set the pace for how the organization plans, sets goals, and checks progress throughout the year
  • Build out the management layer, hiring processes, and performance reviews needed as headcount grows
  • Work alongside the Controller and CEO on budgets, financial forecasts, and how money gets allocated across the organization
  • Keep HR, compliance, facilities, and other back office functions running smoothly
  • Step in when teams disagree on priorities or ownership, and get things unstuck
  • Put practical systems in place that make work easier without piling on red tape
  • Flag problems and decisions to the CEO and Board before they become bigger issues
  • Act as the CEO's right hand on operations and prepare updates for the Board

What We Are Looking For

  • At least 10 years in progressively senior leadership roles, with real P&L or organization wide responsibility
  • A history of helping an organization grow through a period of rapid expansion
  • Direct experience managing other senior leaders, not just individual contributors
  • Examples of having fixed or built out how an organization runs, not just maintained the status quo
  • Comfortable owning a budget and working through financial planning and tradeoffs
  • Sound judgment and the ability to communicate clearly with staff at every level
  • A reputation for integrity and for earning trust quickly with new people

Education

Bachelor's degree required, or an equivalent combination of education and executive leadership experience. An MBA, MPA, or other advanced degree is a plus but not required.
